Hi,

Tried out this plane, it's excellent!

One small question: Why aren't there sticks in the cockpit? Got me into a little trouble for the first time as I was figuring out the controls.

Regards,
Mars.

Why aren't there sticks in the cockpit?

Good question, they simply have not been modeled yet.

You actually fly with the modeled sticks in other copters?

Which ones are you favorite as far as the modeled sticks and their functionality are concerned? I've thought about adding cyclic and collective controls, but they were low on the priority list because I figured they were mostly for decoration and not really used in the sim to fly with. Am I wrong about that? I used to use keyboard and mouse until I got some flight control hardware. I don't think I have ever clicked on a cyclic or collective control model in a sim before.

The other part of the equation is the aircraft help, checklists and tutorials. They take time to write and again are low on the priority list. I wouldn't be opposed to receiving a merge request to add any of these missing pieces.

Thank you for the comments though. It's a slow process but it is coming along. So much to do!

@helijah, so now is as good a time as any, ha! I'll hook up some functionality if you make the model.

Something else I really want to see a model for it is the external range fuel pods. I see those in a lot of videos in crafts configured for utility work.

I think Wayne means the cylindrical pods that can bee seen in this gallery: CH-54 Skycrane Walk Around Page 1.

It seems they are mounted on a rectangular frame that is hoisted and secured under the belly. In some photos like the one below they have added castor wheels.

I imagine the rectangular boxes whit castor wheels function as ferry pods, essentially containing spare parts and tools, and is brought along to whatever airport/complex/parking lot they will be based at while doing a job.

On another topic, the flight control system, I think this might not be that useful but I drop a link anyway:

The video, I like the glass cockpit. That is in the future I think for our AirCrane.

Well I fly with keyboard, but those just help me to determine where my controls are, since I don't have flight control hardware. Those models also make it more realistic.

Yep, that's it. My pictures show the center button is a ribbed or booted hat and not red but black.

Thanks Johan G, I somehow missed you post completely. The AFCS article was interesting and every little bit helps. I have some details on how that system works and am in the process of deciphering it and trying to figure out how to activate the components that are already accounted for but not implemented in the global helicopter AFCS code on fgdata. Like alt-hold, heading-hold and why the wind appears to affect the auto hover when I don't think it is supposed to. The AFCS controls also have a yaw trim I need to implement.
In order for this model to be really realistic and useful we have to have a fully functional AFCS and the engineer station controls. Unfortunately that whole area of programming is not at the top of my expertise list an I am struggling to comprehend it.
