Let's do it this way, seems to work:

... sorry, contents changed and problem is solved anyway ...

@D-ECHO:
The first image shows the menu to define the contents of the fuel tanks as well as the passengers and cargo. If something is set, window closed and reopend the window shows like it is in the second image. After correction things work. Is it possible to have a stable definition of passenger count and cargo in the first run?

The third image shows the angle piece hanging out of the aircraft.

@Josh: I realize you already have changed the fdm in the git. I'll give it a try.

Flight plan: EGLL to LIMC (Milano). Fuel load: 6.000 lb. Had to land at EDDR (Saarbruecken) with remaining 500 lb in the end, => fuel consumption way to high.
Flying was very nice, no swaying along any axis, neither with nor without yaw damper.

Hi Oswald
Glad to hear the FDE is okay. I make some further tweaks in a few days.

I used the existing engine. I will take a look at the fuel consumption.

Kind Regards,
Josh

Sorry, had an issue with the image files ... now the correct images are in the folder:

EGLL to LIMC FL250:
Expected fuel consumption according to fuelplanner.com: 3311 lbs
Real fuel consumption (30 passengers): 9545 lbs despite slow cruise (kias 210)

Some changes have been added recently (thanks D-ECHO). My first attempt on a brief flight from EGOD to EGNS:

New fuel and payload feature looks promising, works for fuel, but pax and cargo not changeable as far as I can see.
No more angle piece hanging out of the aircraft.
Haven't realized more changes yet, flying relatively low (cruise FL160), haven't looked into fuel consumption.

Noticeable observations before the new changes (FDM and AP):
In high altitude (FL about 240 to 270) the aircraft gets slower than it should (kias and GS) needing 900 rpm at cruise instead of 850 (might be adding to fuel issue?)
Approach with AP in ILS or any slow flight at about 140 kias leads to a state near stalling, leading to a very high approach angle in particular during flare. If I switch of AP I can get into normal position with less throttle and better angle of approach.

Hi Oswald,
thanks for testing the new changes. I actually forgot that the fuel/payload dialog was not ready when I pushed it.... will be done soon.
I will also look at the FDM and tune it where you noticed problems.

Hi D-ECHO,

another brief test EGOD to EGNS:

fuel & payload works fine, though there remains a canvas window I can't get rid off after closing the fuel & payload window.
I am not sure about changes in FDM towards slow speed autopilot during approach because I made mistakes using the autopilot and had to fly by hand to rescue my landing, will look into that and the fuel consumption issue later.

Thanks for carrying on work on this nice airliner!

Hello, someone could help me on Q400 startups?
i'm trying to follow tutorials but i'm stuck on switch on A/COL light.
When i'm using autostart nothing happens

Hi,
Use
https://github.com/D-ECHO/Q400-jsb

This has a new FDM and working engines.

After a longer break tonight I have done another flight with the Q400 incl. the recent changes in FDM. EGLL to ENGM (Heathrow to Oslo). As far as I can see everything regarding FDM seems fine, only fuel consumption still is far to high (about 9.000 lb instead of 4.000 according to fuelplanner).
This may in parts well be due to my awkward skills, having had a problem with far to early descent planning, but that cannot be all.
Any ideas/experiences?

Try it now please, let me know if it's closer to right.

I also fixed a bunch of broken things in the FCS, rudder, and yaw damper.

Best Regards,
Josh

Hi Josh,

good to see you back to Q400! Flight from ENGM (Oslo) to ENBR (Bergen), FL260 despite short range, everything worked fine, fuel 2.000 lb (fuelplanner said 1.700 at FL220).
This way the aircraft is really usable for short and medium range flights and I will carry on with it. Thank you for current and D-ECHO for previous improvements!

On the wish list remains a functioning MFD, I guess that is a further major issue and I simply use the intern map instead on screen.

Regards,
Oswald

Good to hear.
D-ECHO is doing that stuff, so he'd have to reply on that. I'm going to move down the fuel usage slightly more, also had to implement many fixes to the Canvas, as the performance is horrible at the moment. (24FPS compared to 55 in my Airbus) Also, tweaking the aerodynamics a little bit to try and get it a bit closer to how it should be.

Best Regards,
Josh

After some more flights with the Q400 I'd like to report again.

Fuel consumption appears to be valid and reliable. It is really nice to fly the aircraft, the autopilot seems to do what it is supposed to (I use the version with the last changes to Autofllight done by Josh a week and a half ago).

I am still puzzling over an issue in flight behaviour: In cruise flight the aircraft has a slightly positive Angle of Attack (2-3°). During stable approach with and without AP with slow speed (130 kias), full flaps and gear out it has a higher AoA. For flare and a smooth touchdown I need a very high AoA, something like 10-20°, otherwise I'd crash. This way landings can be very smooth, but the tail of the aircraft is nearly scratching on the runway.

Having checked cockpit views of real Q400 approaches, these do not behave like that, during stable approach I see a slightly negative AoA and during flare much less positive.

Do I have a problem with flying / handling the plane, or is there still something to be done in FDM? Does anyone else actually fly the Q400 and could report his/her experience, as well?

Anyway this is a really fine aircraft, fun to fly, for me good for airliner training, thank you to developers and maintainers!
