I figured out what the issue with kx165. I will create an issue in the c172p dev repo and we can fix it there as well.

Hum, I don't see the issue in the c172p anymore, we must have fixed it or it never really had the issue.

Pure speculation: The J3 will not have a cabin light, as it had no electrics at all. It is not part of the minimum equipment list for night flying, so it could have been retrofitted in any fashion.

I kind of figured the same thing. It would be exclusively for the pa-18. We have the flashlight already in both aircraft. A map light would be nice, but again I really want to see an example in a RL j3 or pa-18.

From my research it appears the Cub might not actually be certified for night flights although maybe one retrofitted with lights might be. The website was about something called a Top Cub with a 180hp engine?

Here's a POH. It seems the Super Cub's tail wheel is steerable and there is an option for six inches or eight inches on the tail wheel!

Great find, thanks!

On the electrical diagram page 11 or 11a there is a "cockpit light".

Do instrument bring their own light when connected to the battery? Or is the "cockpit light" a "panel light"?

From questions asked on Discord the X-Plane Cub variant (and I presume this is what the electrical output mentioned above is for) has an overhead small light but it's not actually certified for night flights. I quote "What the FAA doesn't know won't do them any harm"!

I know the Cub is not certified neither IFR or night. But the PA-18/SuberCub can be. It is the PA-18/SuberCub that I am looking for the location of any cabin lights. I suppose it could be more of a custom thing, as well as the panel instruments and layout are.

I found a good reference picture for the navigation light switches and electrical circuit breakers of what would undoubtedly be a stock SuperCub. They are located in the same area as the fuel gauges. But I already modeled the panel and breakers from another reference picture of a more advanced (maybe more custom) aircraft, so that is what I am keeping for final layout. I am still open though as to where to put the SuperCub variant interior cabin light. I need that location and potential strength before I can do some of the light maps.

I was reviewing some of the older reference pictures I saved of the different variants I modeled. Amazing the amount of custom uses this aircraft was designed to fill. I think the barrel "fish stocking" variation is one of my favorites.

Light maps and lighting effects for the gauges are finished.

Looks absolutely great!

The Piper Cub has made it to the history guy's channel:

It was even used on aircraft carriers! (check 05:40)

Nice, thanks for sharing.

I really liked the video portion showing the tail section modified to transport injured troops. Just the type of variant I like to model for.

Hi Wayne,
it looks good but I am curious as to what panel you used as reference? The instruments look a bit too big and clustered together?

Kind Regards,
Josh

It's based on this aircraft.

There are a few differences.

This is another one with a similar configuration.

Fixed the segfault caused by using the landing or taxi lights.
Added antennas for all the equipment installed on the PA-18.
Added an ELT in both the Cub and the PA-18, I think the antenna that was already on the Cub might have been for that?
Even though you cannot see it the VOR antenna is located in the vertical stabilizer as per some documentation I found on CubCrafter conversions. I couldn't stand not having an antenna for an instrument even if you cant see it.
Cleaned up the material list in both the pa-18 and j3cub blend/ac's.
It's all pushed to the repositories.

HI Wayne,
I suggest reducing the instrument size to roughly 80-85% of what they are now, as they look too big compared to the image.

Kind Regards,
josh
