It is the object named screen that is causing the problem because you've made it transparent by applying effects/model-transparent to it. (J3Cub\Models\Interior\kx165\kx165_pa18.xml:305)

Generally avoid using transparency except where absolutely necessary as it will have these sort of apparently weird results because transparent surfaces are rendered last and z-order problems are often the result.

Can it be that the digits have also a transparency?
I know that the renderer has problems if you have 2 transparent objects in a row.
All instruments on the Citation II have a glass (transparent object) in the same ac file and there are no problems.

Thank you Richard, I totally missed that. The reason it wasn't an issue in the c172p is it was defined in a different effect prior to the transparent effect assignment so was not taking the transparent effect but the first effect in-line, which by the way was also the wrong effect definition for that object. Got it all straightened out in both aircraft. Thank you.

I'm starting preparation for some post lighting on the interior gauges. In order to do a good job I needed to texture the entire gauge .As it was the outside bezel and mounting screws were material controlled color on those objects, so I textured all those parts. While I was at it I changed the screws to be more consistent and mounted them closer to the gauges.
This is currently what the interior panel looks like.
Anyone know if and where there is a cabin light on a pa-18?

OK, downloaded the latest snapshot and now the plane is stuck on the tarmac / gravel regardless of the airfield I'm starting from. Open the brakes, apply full throttle and the plane just stays put. Any ideas?

I'm working on something else I just discovered to do with the starter at the moment. Which repository did you get the snapshot from? I'll take a look as soon as I can.

In the meantime, I change some core starter logic and property names. Stuff like that can really confuse the logic if it pulls wrong data from the previous .fgfs/aircraft-data/ save. So I would first recommend clearing that cache out.

Also do you notice anything odd with the exterior appearance, specifically the gear.
What gear configuration?
What model aircraft, j3 or pa18?

@msalama

A few more changes just got pushed to all three repositories and they should be in sync with each other. I have no outstanding issues on my end.
Please clear your
.fgfs/aircraft-data/pa-18-?-?
and/or
.fgfs/aircraft-data/j3cub-?-?
pull from the repo again and try again.

You should be good to go.

All good now. The wonders of capital B. Didn't realize the machine has a parking brake now :mrgreen: Thanks again.

I thought about that but really didn't suspect you may not have checked that.

Yes, it has parking brake logic. But I don't know where it is located or what the interior brake handle looks like or how it works. If anyone knows of and can provide me with an example, I will model it.

Here is a sneak peak (not finished) at the ""default renderer" imitation post lighting. If this looks this good I would imagine the light map version for ALS will look even better.

The non-lightmap version of the gauge post lighting is finished. The glass effect is also installed. I have the same issue with the glass on the kx165 in the j3 as we do in the c172p. It appears to be a little more pronounced than the rest of the glass for some reason. Also if you look at the background of the object the digits are mapped to, you can see the outline of the object more pronounced, not so much in the other instruments. Need to investigate.
With the glass effect active the I need to brighten the radio equipment displays.

I still need to find the location of any cabin light that may be common in a j3 or pa-18 and what it looks like?

Really nice! This calls for some night-VFR-adventures.

Pure speculation: The J3 will not have a cabin light, as it had no electrics at all. It is not part of the minimum equipment list for night flying, so it could have been retrofitted in any fashion.
Maybe as a simple small dome light at the forward wing spar, easy to reach for the pilot in forward seat?

What about a map reading light?

@legoboyvdip

I figured out what the issue with kx165. I will create an issue in the c172p dev repo and we can fix it there as well.

This is everything using final adjustments.

You can see the procedural post lighting isn't perfect (or isn't adjusted perfectly). It is emitting light over the top of each gauge. But it also acts as sort of a cheat for a radiant effect on the panel. I have no radiant effect active. I'm not sure I will even bother as I still intend to replace the material lighting with light maps if under ALS and only use the material effects if under the default renderer. Unfortunately you loose the procedural under the default renderer and I think it is what makes this look so plausible.
Really though, it's getting to the point where most users can afford a capable system and there are older versions for those that cannot.

Here is the daytime with the glass effect, you can see a bit of yellow reflection as in some RL pictures I referred to. Not appropriate for other liveries, but I am not going to worry about that right now.
