A new carburetor icing and heat system has been merged into master. Thanks to gilbertohasnofb, dany93 and onox.

Icing has to be enabled via the aircraft dialog.

The team is looking for bugs/comments.

Thank you!

this comes from the PNG library on your system... it is actually harmless...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hi all,

A quick note to let you all know of the latest upgrades, enhancements and fixes the dev team has accomplished for the 2017.1 release. As always, testing and feedback is greatly appreciated.

    * Control surfaces can be checked for free movement during preflight inspection
    * The opening of the baggage dialog was delayed as to wait for the animation of the baggage door
    * Cleaning up the Aircraft Options dialog
    * Improvements to the Ground Equipment dialog
    * Callsigns of new users are automatically randomized to avoid them blocking other new users on multiplayer
    * New About This Aircraft dialog, with information about the project as well as relevant links
    * The pilot's yoke can now be locked with a control lock (lock can be found in the bag on the left of the pilot's seat)
    * Fix bug with ADF timer in the radio stack
    * Added view for IFR training
    * Improvements to the carburetor system (icing, carb heat)
    * Improvements to the engine coughs (due to fuel contamination or carb ice)
    * Lowered limit of critical oil level according to Lycoming's manual
    * Critical oil will not cause the engine to cough, it will simply quit when oil reaches the critical value of 2 quarts
    * Improved fuel contamination system (fixed some bugs)
    * More realistic bush wheels and tires
    * Fuselage shows fresnel effect

Carburetor icing system details -
    * adjusted ice accumulation rate in icing conditions
    * no ice accumulation when the engine is not running
    * adjusted effectiveness of carburetor heat, which now is related to the engine exhaust temperature
    * engine temperature affects ice formation (the warmer the engine, the lower the icing rate)
    * the engine now coughs when the ice is melting, and the amount of coughing is proportional to the quantity of ice (i.e. severe icing accumulation == severe coughing)
    * leaning when engine is coughing due to ice melting can help with coughing
    * coughing can also happened due to fuel contamination with water, and the coughing interval is also proportional to the quantity of water
    * lowered limit of critical oil level (when engine will quit) to below 2 quarts, according to Lycoming's manual
    * critical oil will not cause the engine to cough, it will simply stop

Maybe I sound stupid, but how can I enable fuel contamination and oil management system? When I look at Aircraft options. I can't see options for enabling them! For Flightgear version look below my avatar.

I really don't know the specific version that those features were implemented.
If you don't have a menu choice in "Aircraft options" something to the effect "Complex engine procedures and failures" then you probably don't have a new enough version.

Not yet. Since it's so common nowadays, the core devs are discussing on implementing one. Maybe you can help...
There are free alternatives to (almost) every program you encounter. You just have to find them.

Hi everyone!

As usual, like every other area of the FlightGear project, the people involved with the most recent work and upkeep of the c172p all have day jobs and real life time constraints. Not only that, but like many of us, we have other pet projects we are into that consume much of our free time.

The c172p considered being the flagship of FlightGear is in need of maintenance, repairs and upgrades.

We are looking for continuing support from the FlightGear community to help take care of many specific issues

We also have a great desire to completely re-(model) the entire interior and exterior mesh and bring it up to the standards that should be expected of the FlightGear flagship.

So if your bored and looking for a project or want to learn something new, please help us by simply diving in. There is so much more that could be accomplished.

Thank you for considering the c172p as a possible "next project" to put some time into. Your contributions would be greatly appreciated by all!
The c172p team!
