floats, have a tendency to oscillate with the aircraft, above and below the water surface. I've added the pitch, roll, and altitude compensation animations from the 3D shadow volume effect, but only the pitch and roll compensation work. I might need to check the systems call for the altitude offset in the aircraft's set file. Also getting them to disappear when the
floats are zero for their WOW property isn't working either.
When you compensate for elevation it is critical that the elevation value you compensate with is for the same location on the airframe as the centre of the translate and rotate animations for the "water" object. E.g. /position/altitude-AGL-ft appears to be for the CG so you'd need to keep the centre of the "water" animations close to the CG.
LesterBoffo wrote in Thu May 28, 2015 4:55 pm: I suspect there's properties in the ALS bow-wave effects file that might be disabling the bow-wave from staying on the water surface, and we may need a custom effects for floatplane bowwaves. As it is when it can be seen it doesn't scale well to surrounding water's waves, and may need additional .ac model adjustments.
Note that the bow wave for the carrier is for a displacement vessel - as soon as the float begins to plane it will (possibly gradually) cease to generate that type of bow wave.
Btw. I tweaked the JSBSim hydrodynamics for the
c172p a bit so that it can now take off.

Still, the idle attitude of the aircraft is not right and the whole hydrodynamics is very much guess work with no real tank test data whatever. So far I have not found any tank test data for
floats as comprehensive as the Sikorsky S-40 data I used for the Short Empire (in most tank tests the float is free to trim or at the best trim - but that's not the only case that one needs in FG). I guess I might have to use the same data for the
c172p floats too.
