PBY Catalina crashes on water in fg 3.2

Postby KL-666 » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:24 pm

In flightgear 3.2rc2 i tried to land the Catalina on different water surfaces, but every time it behaves as if it hit ground without wheels and then sinks. Other float planes land good on water. I hope this can be solved, because the Catalina is the only plane i manage to actually steer on the water.

Kind regards, Vincent

I just tried the current Git version of the PBY and it landed perfectly on lake, other than I had the brake on by accident and that acted like a brake would on land. The only thing I did get that needs attention is the warning that at least 2.12 - 3.0 version of FlightGear should be used. I did touch down really lightly with gear up.

Thanks Gijs,

The plane lands on water now. But unfortunately the very reason to like this plane does not work anymore. When on water, rudder use would cause differential engine power. This made the plane very good steerable on water.

@KL-666

Look again at repo, it looks like they just fixed the steering issue today (10/17).

If you don't feel like looking it up it just one line.

Thanks again Gijs for conveying messages over to me rather confusing different forums. The plane is good enough for me now. The most important things work: Landing on water and steering on water. I do not get the mooring on with "B", but that is not too important. Actually lowering the gear in water keeps it in place.

I hope these improvements will make it to the 3.2 aircraft gallery, so everyone can benefit.

Kind regards, Vincent
