"Decent" is debatable. It provides a great starting point, but I've found it needs MUCH tweaking before it flies like the real plane (coming from personal experience).

Yes, I agree, he should switch to AeromatiC++, but he should also adjust it afterwards, so it flies better.

Kind Regards,
Josh

That's why I called it decent and not 'great' or 'perfect'.

But for the low number of input parameters it's still decent. And I'm not saying that because I wrote it but because of the math used which was not invented by me at all.

Aeromatic produces a generic model, but it is surprisingly good.
The next step up is to try Datcom http://www.holycows.net/datcom/ which uses actual aircraft dimensions. Aeromatic actually uses simplified models taken from Datcom and similar documents.
The stage after that is to use one of the Aerodynamic flow models e.g. OpenVSP http://openvsp.org/download.php or Panukl https://www.meil.pw.edu.pl/add/ADD/Teac ... are/PANUKL
Any of these require some knowlege of aerodynamics.

Equally important, and often neglected, are getting good estimates of weight, centre of gravity and roll, pitch and yaw inertias. E.G. If all of your aerodynamics are correct, but your estimated roll moment of inertia is double that of the real aircraft, then the roll response wil be very sluggish.

thanks for your answers !

datcom seems interesting,
the G1000 glass cockpit is not the one used in the panthera, it could be adapted but it is to difficult for me ... does anyone want to try ? ;)

next steps of developments :
- I continue some improvments in the cockpit, and a "very light glass cockpit" (waiting for someone to take care of a realistic glass cockpit)
- D-ECHO will try doing a jsb fdm
- once the fdm is done, an autopilot could be done
- after that, some exterior animations and some effects will be added

regards

Hello,

here are the latest work done on panthera :
- first version of jsbsim thanks to D-ECHO
- choice of 2 fdm : yasim and jsbsim
- instruments improvments
- clickable gear, flaps
- clickable inhg button on altimeter
- an animated slip skid ball on the attitude indicator
- the attitude indicator made in nasal+canvas (as the real one is a lcd screen)
- the screen of glass cockpit : some tests done by D-ECHO (not yet available)
- a lightweight glass cockpit

next steps :
- improve lightwight glass cockpit : add horizontal situation indicator
- jsbsim improvments
- add missing instruments and switchs on the panel
- add lightwight right screen with engine gauges (canva+nasal)

Feedback:
* FDMs:
Both Yasim and JSBsim fly very bizarre, not plausible at all, sorry. Needs lots of work.

Canvas:
Display update rate needs to be increased, PFD is very jerky
Displays freeze when using time warp

3D:
Propeller is "levitating"
aircraft is "levitating" above wheels

Other than that, it's coming along nicely.

Kind Regards,
Josh

Hello it0uchpods

thanks for your feedbacks !

as you can see here : http://wiki.flightgear.org/Pipistrel_Panthera#Development_status_.2F_Roadmap fdm needs lot of work indeed ;)
- a yasim has been borrowed from the cessna caravan in order to fly the aircraft ASAP (it can be removed as soon as the jsbsim version is OK)
- a first version of jsbsim has been made by D-ECHO
You offered your help and it's welcome, thanks a lot :)

The project is very new (1 month), but it respects 2 best practices :
- Minimum viable product
- Release early release often
So anybody can already fly this plane even it is not finished
that's why :
- a first lightweight pfd exists waiting for somebody to implements the real pipistrel cockpit glass instrument
- the exterior 3d is waiting for improvments

regards,

Nico

Hello

here are some news of the pipistrel panthera !

improvment on some settings,
improvment of flight model,
improvment of cockpit effects,
improvment on the left display "very simple glass cockpit" :
  • hsi, heading bug, vor radials
  • buttons to set autopilot heading, altitude, speed
  • buttons to set nav/com equipment : frequencies, radial, volume, swap
  • displaying nav infos

Work in progress ! The plane is not finished but it is usable yet.

@hardba: I can do the engine and propeller, if you could send me a link to the POH ? I could also help with the JSBSim FDM, but mostly as a tutor - the actual work has to be done by you, because I am already actively developing two aircraft and from time to time doing small improvements on two other (see my signature), but when you have any problems I can give you tips. If you can't get windtunnel data for an aircraft (or at least it's airfoils) the other (not as good) solution is to use OpenVSP to get the coefficients.

Also it would be nice to move the files that are in the panthera subdirectory right now (in the GitHub repo) into the root directory so that people can have ONE folder where they just put all the addon aircraft in.

Hello, I pushed a new version on github with gear animations !

Congrats, TheEagle, for your contributions on the differents aircrafts and thanks for your help, but I don't have time enough to learn and work with jsbsim.
Also it would be nice to move the files that are in the panthera subdirectory right now (in the GitHub repo) into the root directory so that people can have ONE folder where they just put all the addon aircraft in.

Good idea, done !

Cheers
