For me you don't have to explain it, I don't plan to do any work on the autopilot in the near future, but if you want to, you can, it's always interesting to learn something new :)

You're welcome :) I think it 'll work better if you control by keyboard/mouse, but I didn't miss it myself because I always use a throttle quadrant :)

Please do, I 'm glad to help you out with new features and improvements :)

I noticed that when aircraft is turned off completely flaps are down and when your turn on an aircraft by pressing s flaps are immediately up. https://ibb.co/98CKyJX

Those are not the flaps, they are the flaperons. They are down because they need hydraulic power to stay in their position. When you start the aircraft using 's', you use the autostart function, which brings the plane to a 'ready to fly' state immediately. When you enable the hydraulics during a normal startup process, the flaperon is raised at its maximum rate of change (which is much faster than the flaps)

I hope this explains your question? (thanks to Octal450 for the implementation by the way!)

Isaak, thanks for the explanation. That answers my question. I thought that flaps were down. It is a feature then.

^ Correct
They take aileron input, and bias it with a specific value based on flap position which is faded out as the aileron moves away from this position to keep authority.

Hi Isaak,

Could you please make a short briefing for me regarding what can someone do with 777's CDU? I know it might be under development right now but I'd like to know what its current status is.

Regards,
George

Sidi is doing the CDU work in his Gitlab repo. @Sidi762: Could you provide a brief summary of the available functions?

It seems that Sidi is busy! Anyway, I'll be waiting for him.

By the chance, I' like to report some errors I get.

1) After automatic speed transition to Mach (somewhere at 31000 ft or above) and when the aircract reaches cruize altitude, thrust all of a sudden idles and I get the 000 IAS value. By that point, I can't set Mach speed ever.

2) Sometimes route manager skips some waypoints, or worse, jumps to previous waypoints which forces aircraft to do a U-turn.

Regards,
George

Hi George,

Sorry for the late reply!

Basically, this CDU does what it does before. What it can do more, you can enter the airport and gate in the position initial page(though it's quite useless as we don't have a real IRS system), select SIDs and STARs while the transition selection is not yet supported, query the alternative airport and query the METAR string of it in ALTN page(requires internet connection). Some entries are just place-holders like the takeoff thurst page and VNAV page. You can enter the transition ALT in VNAV page though. Also, it improves some process to match reality better, such as route activation.

Kind regards,
Sidi

Thank you Sidi, you were very thorough!

Just for the record, are you working on CDU these days? Are you trying to simulate more functions?

George
