C-5 Galaxy?

Postby Berserker » Tue Jun 11, 2013 12:09 am

I'm just wondering if there is a FG version of the C-5 Galaxy. If there is, please post the link. If there isn't, maybe someone could work on one? :roll:

Thanks

Not sure what the status of this plane is, but I've tinkered the FDM into something a little more sane with my copy.

The status is I was going to post an update soon, but my computer has been giving me problems. I've created the crewbunk, a cockpit and have a rudimentary passenger compartment and the TF-39 engines for the A Model (I'm quite proud of those). My skills are somewhat limited so I could use some help with the instruments. I also have Datcom pro and I've been wanting to get that going too. It's been a labor of love and I have been working on this plane off and on since 2009.

Here's the latest version!

The links on this page lead nowhere and with the version I have, the FG program crashes every time I try to load it, is there a newer version?

I found it on the FGMEMBERS github page. Last changes was made on 1. Oct. 2016.
I think the developements has stopped. If this version isnt running on the latest FG, its a problem of FGMEMBERS.

There is a animation with a empty object-name and this lead to a seg-fault.
Open the file C-5/Models/c-5.xml and comment out line 44.
It should look like this block:
Code: Select all
        <!-- 3D Model Material Settings -->
        <animation>
                <type>material</type>
                <!--object-name></object-name-->
                <property-base>sim/model/C-5</property-base>
                <diffuse>
                        <red>0.93</red>
                        <green>0.93</green>
                        <blue>0.93</blue>
                </diffuse>
                <ambient>
                        <red>0.93</red>
                        <green>0.93</green>
                        <blue>0.93</blue>
                </ambient>
        </animation>

I'm sorry, there's more that's wrong, it won't get any altitude and it sinks into the ground It can't be flown manually or on autopilot

Sorry to leave anyone with not working items, but generally we do not support aircrafts from that fork.

In FGAddon you will find hopefully plenty to your liking.

I'll load the FG autopilot and try to fly it, that doesn't work either, unfortunately I have to say that it's useless. This branch doesn't have to be bad, I also got the C17 and the AN124 Ruslan, they both work, the C17 needs a long runway to take off, but it flies

As described on the wiki page:
This aircraft also requires JPack.
Have you JPack installed?

I would say this aircraft is in alpha state.
It has a external model and a FDM.
The cockpit is empty, no controls, no instruments, no levers, no switches.
You can start the aircraft only via menu.
I dont know what part infringed the GPL2. Inside the parent directory C-5 is a file called COPYING and it include the GPL2.
If there is a developer interested in this aircraft, he/she should ask the authors to double check that all files are open source.

II have now tested it at different airports and found the take off with AT only works in "migraine mode", at takeoff only SPEED WITH PITCH should be activated, retract the landing gear directly after takeoff otherwise it will not gain altitude, Mach should be set to 0 ,5 stand still, only activate course control and tilt/altitude control when sufficient altitude has gained, FlightDirector mode should remain deactivated otherwise it will drop again immediately, it also does not follow the entered GPS course, you have to correct the course yourself.

Unfortunately the model also shows texture errors, all in all not a good job, I hope someone will revise it or make a new one
