I suggested blackbird to set up a git repository to make development easier for a group of developers. But it hasn't been updated since which makes it kind of useless. If development takes a flight there then it will be the main development repository and the end result will be pushed to the official repository (flightgear git).

Sorry for coming late to the party guys, but am I reading this right, is there a new version of the F16 for download? If so where, I love that plane.

Unfortunately there isn't. I gave up on that attempt since nothing came out of it despite a flying start.

Noticed some problems with the JSBSIM F-16:

Max Roll-rate

I think its limited now to around 181 degs/sec. From the open sources I could gather 240 Deg/s seems to be more in line with its capabilities, especially also considering the F-18 can do 225 degs/s.

Pitch oscillations

When flying around mach 1.2 at 5000 ft it starts heavy pitch oscillations.

Trouble reaching 9G at corner speed

It seems to more be around 5-7 G at around 400 KT around 6000-7000 ft.

This might have something to do with some control law I'm not aware of. I've noticed that pulling up before rolling increases the roll rate considerably.

I don't think I've seen that one before.

Note that the F-16 is not able to pull 9G always at any time, or continuous. It heavily depends on it's velocity.

It might be a good idea to recalibrate the pid controllers though. They are from quite some versions of JSBSim ago.

I might have misread how "fcs/roll-rate-norm" influence the roll-rate you are able to perform then. Forget I mentioned that.

Thanks for the answers.

Just to be sure we're on the same page:

I meant the control law in the real F-16 which I might not know about.
The developers did some pretty neat tricks to get the optimum out of the hardware.

Could anyone fix autopilot and upload it into repository?

Below is my way to fix autopilot:

In f16/Systems/jsb-controls.xml
line 898, change
Code: Select all
<input>fcs/fly-by-wire/pitch/trim-scaled</input>

into
Code: Select all
<input>-fcs/fly-by-wire/pitch/trim-scaled</input>

Hi
Please checkout the new F-16 at http://www.github.com/NikolaiVChr/f16.git It is based off this one, with many improvements and fixes.

In addition, I made a new autopilot for it, so it should work fine.

Hi Josh,

Is it ready for inclusion in FGAddon?

I think it's still WIP - I've got a fairly large pull request that Leto needs to check; and there are still other things in progress.

A little progress update since last months:

Richard has replaced the radar with a more performance optimized one. Is a big change and needs more testing before FGAddon.
JMav16 has been busy adding liveries and payloads.
it0uchpods has refined the autopilot further.
G-EED has been modifying the sounds, not all has been merged in yet though.
The document that the aerodynamics is mainly based on had an error in how leading edge flaps position were used. This resulted is subpar performance at high AoA and in negative AoA at high speed level flight. This has now been corrected.
MFD now has a HSD page and the old HSD is removed.
HUD now has steerpoint marker and different symbology.
it0uchpods made a new electrical system
Various cockpit improvements by all of us. And now has working floodlight.
Now has checklist for cold startup.
Various bugs has been fixed.

We are currently working on branch 'newRadar' if you want to test out the latest stuff.

The F-16 in FGAddon has been changed, the upgrade option should appear in the 2018.2/3 launcher shortly.
