Hi xsaint,
Well the A-6 Intruder never had fancy liveries, only the tail has nice drawings, specially in the 70ties. I have chosen the actual livery, buno 160996 from VA-35 because of the nice AJ squadron marks which was like a wink to AJ MacLeod (which modeled the Lightning) and I tried to be as accurate as possible, which is some time quite difficult.
I've found one picture of an A-6 in camo paint scheme:
http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/bunker/7316/camoa6.jpg but unfortunately there is no indication about its squadron, so no way to guess the other signs like tail signs.
Note that the Flightgear A-6 has a special mapping that prevent having a nice drawing like camo over the whole surface. It was a test I've made to give the maximum definition on some marks in the minimal texture size. This could change with a later version as this method is not compatible with AO textures. Then it will be much easier to add lots of different tails drawings. When that will be done I will be happy to provide the .xcf templates along with the expected AO texture layer so you or any one can do nice (but accurate) variants.
But I'm still convinced that this would be a shame to put a Prowler or whatever random paint scheme on an A-6E Intruder!
By the way, I've seen the beginning of Pensacola work for the A-10 texture (he sent me a copy some time ago), this was stunning detailed, why don't you try to use it as a template ?
You may have noticed while flying the A-10, the A-6E or the F-14B, that I'm really concerned by accuracy and quality. I know that not many people can spend as much time as I spend on my cockpits or models, but I really think that all FlightGear aircrafts deserve the best effort to make them the nicest as possible.
Fly on,
Alexis
