Is there a way to 'dumb down the YASim importer to use with Blender for Windows 2.45? Sorry if this has already been asked, but I would like to use the .xml importer with this 'ancient' version because it works best with my MQO2AC py. Metasequoia import-export script.

Hi

No need to use this one then.
The original script, by M. Franz, was made for Blender 2.4x.

See: http://wiki.flightgear.org/YASim#Visualization

Hope this helps

Hello people

The script is available via GitHub now + I finally managed to stumble together a little wiki article: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Blender_YASim_import :D

I felt so free to add a link on the YASim wiki page.

Offtopic: Further I added the rotor and rotorgear elements from README.yasim to http://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Make_a_helicopter and also placed a link on the YASim page.

Hi rebootl

Until today the import script Yasim worked smoothly :) Unfortunately with the passage at Blender 2.73a, the script crash from the beginning of the import :(
Image

I tested with the recently modified FDM (I'm qur they were imported with Blender 2.71) and the result is the same.

This is beyond my expertise ;(

Can you see if you have the time ?

Hello

Sorry, I totally missed that. I wasn't very active on my FG projects this year...
I'll have a look at it in the coming time, to get it working with the latest Blender version.

Thanks for reporting & Regards

Hello

Updated version for Blender 2.7 released (tested on 2.76): https://github.com/rebootl/simple_yasim ... t/releases

It was a change in the Blender API leading to the error.

The wiki page is updated accordingly: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Blender_YASim_import

Please feel free to test and report back.

Thanks & Regards

Hey rebootl

I tested with my blender 2.73 and it works very well :) Realy nice work.

If I may, here are two quick points :

1 - Position, rotation and size are blocked by default. This is quite disadvantageous when creating or modifying an FDM :)

2 - Mirroring works very strangely. Also, if the option is active, loading a FDM does not.

Hello.

Thanks for testing out and feedback.

for 1) Yes I did this on purpose. However, I think I could easily add a checkbox for this like for the item names.
for 2) I couldn't reproduce this here. What FDM did you use, does it happen with every FDM ? I just noticed that the Labels on the buttons are in french. Did you modify the script ? If yes, are you sure it happens with the unmodified version as well ?

Hi rebootl

1 - It would be a great option :)

2 - This is the fdm of my next model in progress (the Caproni Stipa). But it is the same for all other fdm of my hgangar that I tested (Mirage 2000, Boeing P 26, Fiat G91 etc ..).

For the interface in French I only set Blender in this language. Nothing else :)

1) Yes, no problem, I think I can do this, maybe tomorrow.
2) Ah, funny. OK, I see the interface translation and tried it but it's working here. Currently I'm using Blender version 2.76 and I actually haven't tested with 2.73.
However it's still strange, I'd have to do more testing...

Good Night

Hello

I've added a checkbox for the translations locking. Version 0.6.1: https://github.com/rebootl/simple_yasim ... t/releases

As for the mirror issue however, I tested with Blender 2.73 and the p26-yasim.xml (from p26-10-09-2015.tar.gz), from your hangar, helijah. But it did work well...
One thing I can think of: Have you tried with a clean Blender startup file, File --> New... ?
(The script uses the object names matching on "YASim_*".)

Hi rebootl

Fantastic ! The option is really convenient. Thank you for the quick modification

Regarding mirroring, it's no big deal for me because I do not use lol. For information this is the result (counting from 0, import .ac then import FDM - with my Mystère IV)

Without mirror

Thanks for the detailed description. That's actually helpful.

Looks like the coordinate system got messed up somehow. Maybe it has to do with importing first.
I'll try that out, but it may take some time.

Hi

I've created a fork that fixes some annoyances in the visualisation (for me at least - they may not be annoying to others)

It's here:

https://github.com/enrogue/simple_yasim_import-git

there are 2 branches at the moment:

slats-spoilers - put slats on the leading edge of the flight surfaces, and spoilers just behind the halfway point

Image

moving-surface-size - the above plus making the slats/spoilers/flaps and eighth of the chord width - so they taper with the wing

Image

I'm not a Python programmer - this is probably my first look at Python - in fact I'm a very rusty programmer all round, so apologies if it lacks efficiency (or just plain sucks)

I've tested it on 2.69 on Linux & 2.76b on Mac - no errors so far

If people think it's useful I could ask for it to be merged into main repo

This addon is not working anymore in Blender 2.93. It says that it was sucessfully intalled but after checking there is no how to import 3D models to Blender!
