CASA C-101 Aviojet
& Enaer A/T 36 Halcón
GPL Licence - Version May 22, 2013

Image

The CASA C-101 "Aviojet" is a militar turbofan trainer, designed and built in Spain, which made its first flight in 1977. With 2 seats and duplicated instruments, it is used in the early stage of military pilots training, before they are allowed to take higher-performance combat jets. Export versions can use some air-to-ground armament, so the C-101 turns into a light attack plane.

This aircraft is used by Ejército del Aire (Air Army, Spain) for training and aerobatics in the "Patrulla Águila" team; Chile, Honduras and Jordan air forces also uses it like jet trainer, shooting trainer, and light ground attack platform. In Chile was built under licence by ENAR, being called A-36 Halcón.

Versions:
    CASA C-101 EB: Original version, used only in Spain; used by the "Patrulla Águila" aerobatic team, with a Garret 731-2 engine, 3500lb thrust.
    CASA C-101 BB - ENAER T-36: Export version, used by Chile and Honduras air forces, with a Garret 731-3 engine, 3700lb thrust.
    CASA C-101 CC - ENAER A-36: Export version, used by Chile and Jordan air forces, with a Garret 731-5 engine, 4700lb thrust.

Main differences between versions are the mounted engine. The EB version (1977) has less power -3.550 lbs thrust- followed by BB (1981) -3.700 lbs thrust. CC version (1986) has more power -4.00 lbs thrust-, improving their flight performance.

Our current C-101 model for FlightGear has received a noticeable improvement in its FDM, reaching (in the EB version) a much closer performance compared with the flight manual indications: takeoff speeds, climb rate, manoeuvrability, service & combat ceiling, stall behavior and even stall caused by high G was considered in our performance evaluation.

Another improvement is a new (basic) fuel system configuration, which manage fuel flows between tanks in the same way the aircraft does. Aircraft sounds was also improved -increasing the realism of simulation- and the shaders has been fixed for FlightGear 2.10. Rembrandt support still being just basic and experimental, so it isn't consideer useful yet.

And now... be careful at flying! The plane got a new "crash system", so the plane will crash if you pull it over G limits (+7.5, -3.9) or hit ground; flaps and gear may fail if you use it above their speed limits (190 KIAS), and the crash will be unusable if you exceed the VNE (450 KIAS).

Some features for FlightGear:
    * Realistic 3D modelling and texturing
    * External animations
    * Partícle system (Aerobatic smoke only in C-101 EB version)
    * FDM close to performance described on Pilot's Flight Manual
    * Fuel system
    * Pushback (military)
    * 7 liveries, organized by aircraft version
    * Gun (Only C-101 BB & CC versions)
* Crash system (Be aware with extreme high G manoeuvres and VNE!)[/list]

To Do:
    * Improve cockpit: instruments, controls & textures
    * Functional systems
    * Dual Control
    * Improve Weapon system

Why no answers yet? :(

I think it is another great product by the team around and with El Flauta!
Very well and accurate modeled with detailed landing gear (unfortunately no compression animation yet) and control surfaces, several detailed liveries, bump-spec-shader.

I can't tell about the fdm, but I do know that it makes a lot of fun to fly this jet!

Thanks for this great work!

I'm sorry :oops:

I did notice it, but didn't have the time to reply. 8)

It is a great looking model, I hope my first attempt will look a good as this. :mrgreen:

I did not see this when it was posted. The model looks superb, I will try it out when I get a chance. Thanks to El Flauta and whoever else works with him, we already know they produce only high quality work. :)

Control is reeeeeally strange. Nearly impossible to do fast manoeuvers?

How do I start it up from the command line?

I've tried

--aircraft=C-101BB

--aircraft=C-101EB

--aircraft=C-101

in my fgfsrc but not found.

Thanks for your words, they are very stimulant :)
I just wrote a Wiki article with info. The aircraft development will have a rest for one month now, while we work improving our previous aircrafts.

The C-101 is a trainer, not a high-performance fighter. However, you may perform manoveurs until 7 G's max. The original aircraft doesn't have a very powerful engine and it banks not so fast, especially EB version; so, try to don't pass 4~5 G's when you want to do loops or continuos turns (you can reach even 6 with the more powerful C-101CC).

In addition, the aircraft has a very long range, being able to fly 7 hours continuous without refueling; so, you may try to perform close manoveurs with less fuel :wink: I can imitate some Patrulla Aguila turns with the C-101EB or the FACH demo show in aerial fairs with the C-101CC having just some fuel on first tank (50%)... and this means more than 30 minutes of flying! That is a lot for a standard demo show. The only aerobatic which i can't reproduce for now is the inverted spin, but i made cuban eights, loops, immelman, spins and tailslides without problem... just being careful with the G's.

For now, you can use the HUD to measure your force. The plane will be provided with its accelerometer in a near future. Thanks for your commentary :)

Mmm... i don't have 2.4 version in my Ubuntu, so, i don't know. Did you try with fgfs --show-aircraft?

EDIT
I found the answer:
1977_C-101EB
1981_C-101BB
1986_C-101CC

Thanks. I get the planes to start loading up now, I get the splash screen but then I get a segfault. I'm using Git version though, 2.5 or maybe 2.6 now, so maybe that's the reason why. I just get the console message "segfault" but no more information than that. Other planes load fine.

It doesn't accelerate particularly fast or corner like a modern high-performance jet, but if you drop most of the fuel, kick the copilot out and get yourself down to just over 8000 lbs, it performs nicely. It rolls smoothly and quickly, and does beautiful rudder-only rolls. Stalls are flat and mushy, no tendency to snap over. I couldn't get it to loop though, even after nosing it down into a dive-- it just hangs at the apex and falls back. Probably something I don't know there. This is going to be a really fun plane.

Nice job guys!

This aerobatic team from Spain... How the hell they were able to do aerobatics in this plane?

My guess is with the minimum fuel load for the show.

Muchas gracias!! Thank you

A few errors i see:

-Inside Sound folder gear.WAV should be gear.wav
-Inside Nasal folder liveries-C-101CC.nas should be Liveries-C-101CC.nas
-Inside folder Models/Instruments/AI ai.xml should be AI.xml
-Inside folder Models/Instruments/HSI hsi.xml should be HSI.xml

This errors are only Linux related, will find more when it loads on git version, ;)
