Water aircraft? anyone want?

Postby Natovr » Wed Apr 30, 2008 6:18 pm

I've decided, while i've got nothing to do, I can just as well model an aircraft ^_^ I think water aircraft are pretty cool, and since we don't have many of them, who has a suggestion for a water aircraft I could design?

Definitely the SC Seahawk. Its a carrier deployed seaplane used in World War Two.

A little list which seaplanes I'd like to see :D

- the flying wood shoe, Blohm & Voss Bv 138!
- Dornier Do 24 T & ATT
- Spitfire with floats (yup, they existed)
- Short Sunderland

I think the spitfire with floats would be easiest :p since the the spitfire is already there, and for a beginner like me, even adding floats is hard. :D I'll do one of the others if I'm done with the spitfire quickly

Is it a Spitfire or the S-6B, its "father"?
I don't see any Spitfire with floats on Wikipédia.

If you're looking for something easy to add floats to, how about the c172 or j3cub?

In fact, the c182 is pretty similar to a c180, which definately can have floats.

However, I don't recall if JSBSim supports floats or not.

it was the supermarine spitfire that had the floatrs and they were binned fairly quickly because the merlin engine was too powerful.

I'd like you to find a still frame of that star wars water craft, from.... attack of the clones? i think...
or some sort of jet, maybe a floating LEAR jet design,
if you could, a futuristic type!

should I try business or fighter?

I havent watched starwars that much... which one are you talking about? i only know that HUGE deathstar thing and the tiny round attack things with 2 pointy edges at the front

I've modelled the float so far, I'll go onto the aircraft if i know what to do ^_^ i want to do a fighter jet, but you guys might like a business jet more... but it's fiction :p

ive got it sorta visualised. If it's a fighter, it will have a single large float with 2 small ones on each side for balance. If it's a "learjet" type aircraft (business) it will have basically 3 floats where gears would normally be.

EDIT: I'm a beginner, so once I've released it, you can modify it all you guys want, since it will probably look abnormal/ugly/incomplete

Since nobody posted, I'll start on the fighter. I'm not sure how air would behave around it though. It's a basic triangle jet, but with another triangle wing suspended above the bottom one (like a bi-plane, if you will). I'm not sure how air will behave in the gap, but only time will tell :p

PS: how would I go about making the triangle wing? the "Follow Me" tool in Sketchup isnt helping much.

wow, nobody's saying anything

This kinda turned into an experiment for me... I've made 2 wings outta 4, and I'm trying to get the airfoil just right so it can be experimented right. I'll use DATCOM for the FDM so I can test it
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r4/n ... gthing.png

I've learnt alot about sketchup while making this :p this is my first real model I've made.
any tips? ideas?

It won't have a back rudder. That thing at the side of the wing will be one of the rudders.

This might take a month or 2, since what I want to do doesn't even exist :p I'm changing my mind the whole time

EDIT: seems like I'm doing this for myself.
