hi henning

I had got the CRJ700 for an spin

It is a lovely job
The latest version you merged into FGMEMBERS works amazingly well.
I came a little to hot during landing, but that was pilot in command error :S

Thanks

IH-COL
If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it? Probably not, because if they don’t recognise their freedoms, they’ll let their freedoms fall

Hi all,

Just wanted to chime in with a quick update on the license of the aircraft. I've relicensed my models and textures under CC-BY 4.0. You can find the commit at the repository. This makes them fully compatible with the new FG Addon repository to ensure that any further work done can be mainlined into FG.

Congrats on all the improvements you guys are making.

see what a thoughtful and kind author Ryan is, you just have to ask, Henning/Israel can you please now merge his changes to the LICENSE files, so that your contributions are re-distributable with GPL, preferably with clean commit history.

It is generally my experience that people respond much better to asking nicely than to just taking.

Oh dear *sigh*
This is what happens, if I go on vacation? License issues?! I am an engineer, not a lawyer or bookkeeper, so go away with that ;-)
Ok, seriously, if I got it right, there was/is(?) a problem with an illegal change to the license statement but Ryan "Skyop" kindly fixed this as he is the original author. So everything is ok now?

There IS a problem, not WAS, Since your repository is a fork of Skyop's, and he issued the models and textures under CC-BY 3.0, it was important that you keep the LICENCE file unchanged, this commit made it a violation:

https://github.com/d-jsb/CRJ700-family/commit/3fff49318b4dfdfbee8c4dd55c348fc60211fe99

atleast, revert Israel's commit, and git pull/rebase Skyop's repository.

That's kind of annoying... I am still far from being an git expert, from the link above I cannot even tell at which point in time the problem started and now my repo is f***up?! HELP!
What do you mean by "pull/rebase Skyop's repository"?
As Ryan updated the license file in his repo, maybe it is sufficent to copy his new version to my repo?

Ok, I guess I managed to create and apply a pull to my repo so I have Skyops latest license file now. I deleted all branches but master from my repo (but not from my local PC) so I hope everything is "clean" now.
Could somebody explain how exactly that could happen? I still do not fully understand.

IAHM-COL thought yours was the same liscencing as FGADDON CRJ so he changed it from CC-BY-3.0 TO GPL. but on september 11 he changed it back, seeing the error.
So now its compatiable with GPL, and it can be put in ADDON and MEMBERS.

I'm a little late but I just wanted to make some clarifications about what happened with FGMEMBERS and this aircraft. There is a lot of FUD going around.

  1. FGMEMBERS forks the CRJ700 from my Github repository, which had a CC license on my models and textures.
  2. FGMEMBERS sees that the slightly older copy in FGAddon has a GPL license. This is because I would relicense my models and textures under GPL before pushing to fgdata.
  3. FGMEMBERS changes the license on their copy to GPL, which is completely illegal because it was derived from my CC version.
  4. Some months later, FGMEMBERS realizes their "mistake" and reverts the commit that changed the license file. They move their repository to their "NONGPL" section.

Where they went wrong is step three. That change and any changes made after it are illegal. Just because the commit was later un-done doesn't mean it's been fixed.

It's an unfortunate misunderstanding, but it's not permissible, plain and simple, and they could have handled it better. As the author, this isn't cool.

Unfortunately, no, it's not. Legally, any contributions after the commit that changed the license from CC to GPL need to be audited to ensure they conform to the CC-BY-3.0 license. Actually, it would be best if they complied with the new CC-BY-4.0 license, which will be applied to the copy that will be pushed into FGAddon by Hamza.

If you are the sole contributor then this will be no problem, we just have to rebase your commits.

See above.

Wrong. "Changing it back" is not sufficient, see above.

The point is that the CRJ700 copy on FGMEMBERS, with its commit history, is illegal as it stands. I'm not responsible for a repository that isn't mine.

The authors who contributed to it, like Henning, need to talk with Hamza, who is currently working on merging changes back to FGAddon.

I still do not see how this can be un-illegaled then. Can it?
