Developement: BK 117 Helicopter [GIT/SnapshotRelease/2.2.0]

Postby HHS » Tue Mar 22, 2011 3:57 pm

GIT or SnapshotRelease only!

Always latest Download: click here
Commit log: click here

Features already a detailed 3d-exterior with normal map and reflection-shaders, many dynamically configurable variants, a realistic fdm.

The next steps are a better rotor animation and the interior modeling with a detailed 3d-cockpit with 3d-instruments.
I hope I get her as good or even better than the Ec130 B4.

No instruments yet- please use the HUD.
Paintkit will follow soon.

EDIT: "l"-key ("l" like "l"andinglight) for the landinglights. (not quite realistic yet)
"d"-key for disable YAW-SAS (like the real one)

Yesssss.. I can't wait to take it up for a spin :). It's already looking great (minus the small issue with transparent faces which i suppose will be fixed when an interior is ready :p)

After I saw this video I said out loud: WOW :D

This is a really great heli yet, you are doing such a fontastic job - Heiko - this helicopter is really amazing!

BTW: how do you control your heli? With a joistick and pedals? It looks so delicate! :P

Geez, you do it again.
This will be a tough competition to the beloved EC130 ...
Don´t let her hear it

Awesome job HHS, as usual! (I knew you were being a little quiet lately. ;) ) I might put this in my first FlightGear video, to be submitted (when it's ready) to the FlightGear video contest!

@all:

Thanks for your words! Until it is in the same state like the EC130 it is still a far way. The cockpit is much more complicated and filled with steam gauges.

Another update:

The next update will need some time- wetter is going fine the next days, and I beside job I have to done some other things as well...

When you said easy to fly, I checked again the fdm- and found that I used the wrong values for the tail rotor rpm. So I checked all values, now with SAS disengaged it is nervous as the Bo105 as well. And that's how the BK117 is described by pilots. (The B117 is nothing others than a scaled up Bo105.)

Another small update available.
I found some datas describing the response and roll-rate of the Bk117 compared to the Bo105. So the fdm should play on the same level like the Bo105 now. Needs of course real-pilot test ;-)
It maybe needs some tweaking of the YAW-SAS.

I also fixed some issues on the exterior model, and changed the liveries all to .dds-format.

The heli here you can see:
Image
is exactly the helicopter from what I have plenty of high resolution images from the interior, provided by a former user. That's what I will do the next weeks- working on the interior. I haven't completly decided yet which panel I will make and which avionics I will use.

 Apart from the blocky bends on the front ends of the skids and the slightly exaggerated riveting, this is very, very realistic (and that is after comparing images on airliners.net looking for deviations). :D

Good work so far! Keep it coming! :D

There's is one of these in Stockholm (image), which happen to be the only helicopter I've ever been close enough to touch. Sad thing though is that I saw it on the last air show on one of the larger public airports in the area (Stockholm-Tullinge airport, ESCN), then to be closed, shooting half a roll of film with my dads SLR on that heli alone. Coming home I found out that the camera was empty... Shortly thereafter I bought a DigitalSLR...

Maybe I change the skids later, the look of the rivets depends a lot on the light direction. Sometimes they are clearly visible, sometimes not. -->Image

But I'm surprised that no one saw the big, big mistake I made: the reardoors are not in the same level with the other doors! I just noticed it when I wanted to extrude the floor....

That means: I have to change that together with all liveries I already made... I know why I didn't published the paintkit yet.

Bad day.... :(

Edit: fixed, but I have to remade the Police-livery in near future....
