If you do an EXPED climb yes; but normal practice is to accelerate to 250 knots and then to ECON CLB speed, which is a function of cost index. I don't actually know why that is. Presumably the engineers figured out it was the most efficient profile (taking into account scheduling, fuel, time etc)

Hi Avgeeks,

Mayday, Mayday!
Has there been any new update recently, like in the last 24 hours? My A320 is going crazy again. ADIRS failed warnings, Flt ctrl laws failed and there is also font issues, every numeric value on FCU is 888. I have seen this type of things before when my Flightgear version was not anymore compatible. But I don't see any recent update. I have got 2020.3.13. Need Help!

Thanks and Regards

Again SID KOTKI from SLTJ, CLB confirmed under FL 100 :

confirmed above FL100 - still CLB, I switched some pages on the MCDU for refresh, then back to PERF :

Target speed is GDS - 205 KIAS. And here is paperworks without maps :

Thanks, that's helpful - I'll check the managed speed loop.

Devansh_NoBlue wrote in Tue Sep 20, 2022 12:55 pm:Has there been any new update recently, like in the last 24 hours? My A320 is going crazy again. ADIRS failed warnings, Flt ctrl laws failed and there is also font issues, every numeric value on FCU is 888. I have seen this type of things before when my Flightgear version was not anymore compatible. But I don't see any recent update. I have got 2020.3.13.

No update here from my side.

A log file would be helpful. Maybe you have an odd Nasal error. If its showing numeric values as 888 it sounds like you had the test switch on the overhead panel enabled.

Hey Avgeeks,

This is just to let you guys know that my A320 multiple failures thing has resolved. I had to reinstall the flightgear again. Don't know the cause of the issue but reinstalling fixed it. Sharing this so if anyone comes across this, atleast have an idea what to do. Thanks to the developers for the quick response.

Thanks and Regards,
Devansh.

Re: A320-family development

Sry for being late.

I use the "Ready for take-off"-short cut in the Aircraft config menue. During departure the PERF page is CLIMB.
I use speed, roll and pitch in selected mode. Before take-off V1, VR and V2 are set in the MCDU. And V2 is set in the FCU. Is that the problem?

If you do such departure in the real plane, before take-off should you really insert the "desired" speed in the FCU you wish to have after acceleration altitude instead of inserting V2?

If I do such a departure in the 737, before take-off I also set V2 in the MCP. But here the FD will command V2+~20 even after acceleration height until I turn the speed bug up. Am I doing it here wrong too and should I also insert the speed I wish to have after acceleration height instead of V2?
I am a bit confused now, because all CBT videos I have seen tell you to insert V2 and in all real life cockpit videos no matter if Boeing or Airbus they also seem to insert V2 before departure ...

legoboyvdlp wrote in Tue Sep 20, 2022 10:03 am:You not getting anything on the roll axis is expected because we don't have RWY guidance yet.

Means in the :D real  plane if roll is in selected mode, after lift off at 50ft AGL the flight mode annunciator would switch from RWY to HDG?

thx for your help.

if you set V2 in the FCU, then that's the reason why it goes to V2 when you put the THR LVR to CLB.

Yes, you would set it to your speed you want after ACCL ALT

Yes. SRS targets V2 + 10.

After acceleration the aircraft will revert to whatever speed you selected, if you haven't enabled managed speed.

And I disagree very much with the following quote - Airbus standard practice is to use managed speed, not selected speed. If you want to restrict speed, you can set the speed in the MCDU.
In real life cockpit videos no matter if Boeing or Airbus they also seem to insert V2 before departure ...

Not quite. If you did not arm NAV before takeoff, at 30', RWY will become RWY TRK and at that point its the responsibility of the pilot to select what lateral mode they want.

Even if you preset a heading before takeoff, HDG will not engage until you pull the heading knob -- at 30', RWY TRK will be engaged.

Hey Everyone,

I would like to suggest a change/improvement. I have seen A320 consumes lot of fuel on taxi. Like for 10 minutes or so, it should consume only about 250 lbs as per simbrief flightplan. But in Flightgear it consumes almost twice. Feels like it is encountering much more friction than in real life. Secondly, I have seen only little thrust is given to get the plane out of inertia then it keeps moving on idle thrust. But in FG, it requires thrust all the time to keep overcoming the friction and to keep rolling.
On takeoff, speed starts to drop off as soon as we reach 12 degrees of pitch. But in the videos, I have seen they easily keep accelerating even after 15-17 degrees. I know that depends upon weight and CG. But once I tried at lighter weight, like with which A320 spawns, about 60 tonnes. And Took off with Toga power and the result was same. Feels like it is facing much drag than in reality.
This makes departure out of Paro on edge. Aircraft reaches V1 speed at the point where if I choose to stop, I will end up with runway excursion.
I'm no expert. Maybe putting some light on this can help me in better understanding.

Thanks and regards,
Devansh.

How do you know that the simbrief plan is correct? Also you didn't mention any fuel burn numbers from the sim, or in fact weight.

"But in Flightgear it consumes almost twice. Feels like it is encountering much more friction than in real life"

On top of my comment above, you failed to mention which engine option are we discussing. I also remind you that taxi burn will be somewhat dependent on weight as well.

What is Your take off config for Paro ? This airport is more than 7000 feet above the sea level, so You need FLAPS 3 config for reasonable V1 speed.

Have you been using the 3D branch? Reminder that the dev branch is missing a significant portion of thrust -- this doesn't affect it in flight except at heavy weights, because it is missing drag to compensate. This is because the simplistic JSBSim turbine engine model does not account for a modern engine that has a flat rating option -- so the engine is limited in the amount of thrust it can produce, in order to maintain a consistent level, up to a particular temperature.

This is why, by telling the FADEC that the outside temperature is some temperature above that rated temperature, we can derate takeoff thrust

Image

So - that's why you will for example see a takeoff setting of 98.1%, as opposed to whatever the maximum rotational speed is, because while the engine could theoretically produce e.g. 25,550 pounds of thrust at that maximum speed, the computer is limiting it to 25,000 pounds. The problem with this, is that JSBSim doesn't know anything about flat rating and assumes that 100% N1 = 100% thrust, which is actually not the case, so you'll get something significantly lower than the rated thrust. In the worst case scenario you'll lose more than half of your thrust.

The 3D branch has an improved engine model, which finally has a correct amount of thrust (but increased drag to compensate), as well as a general rework of the flight dynamics.
