Time for a FG Tiggy

Postby Lester-Boffo » Thu Jun 16, 2022 8:21 pm

It's been too long, without this plane in FG. The DeHavilland 82 TigerMoth has a long history in the UK as a trainer and vintage restoration project.

It's trained dozens of thousands of future WWII pilots to fly, and it's gracefully crafted in it's own 1930's design standards. They also had a reputation of training the right kind of flight habits in the future Spitfire and Lancaster pilots. Fondly remembered by those who trained on it.

So I'm taking on this as a long term project.. Watch this space..

The FDM is taking shape, loosely based on the Cygnet II I converted, with some of the features from Gerard's Stampe SV4. The Tiger Moth's lower wing had proportional more upward travel in the ailerons than down, to prevent too much adverse yaw when using the ailerons and rudder to turn. The ailerons act somewhat like drag spoilers, with they're being present only on the lower wing, which had considerable back sweep and rearward stagger.

It's going to make an interesting FCS for the aileron/roll channel outputs.

Thank you for taking this one on Lester.

I've had one in my to do list for years, owning a Tiger Moth is on the bucket list and I'm hoping to join the Tiger Club up at Damyns Hall and get some Tiger Moth time in the logbook in the next year or so.
I have a friend with one if you need any reference material, I think I've got a full set of digitised pilot notes and gypsy service manuals somewhere.

Thanks Alex. Both of the reference/manual and some interior panel photos, joystick and throttle quadrant for both pilot and co-pilot positions would be a big help. If there's a online available link?

I think I may expand this build out, I'm working on a MS 2002 Auster Mk 1 3D file. It seems that Cirrus Blackburn engined 1940's trainers are addictive.
