757 PCF

Postby dom_vc10 » Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:15 pm

Hi

I am a big fan of the 757 and the FG one is pretty good. We are missing the freighter version which is what I'd primarily like to fly. The issue with the current model is it has windows. If I assume correctly I should be able to somehow get the model into blender and then remove them? There seems to be several scripts I will need plus some knowledge of blender, which I have never touched in my life. Is this something a total inexperienced modeller like myself could manage and if so is there some helpful guide?

Thanks

Import into blender with the .ac import/export plugin. In edit mode, select the windows. Dissolve and possibly Merge/collapse (UV destructive) are your friends. Depending on the topology you might have to think which verts/edges you choose for dissolving or merging and possibly rebuild parts of the mesh and/or UV.

Export as .ac, Done!

Good luck!

I cannot get the plugin to show. I have it in the addons folder. I am using the guide to enable it in preferences --addons. It doesn't show. I am using blender 2.82a. Any ideas?

Make sure you have the correct plugin version(for 2.80+)
your addons directory should contain: io_scene_ac3d/ which should contain:

AC3D.py export_ac3d.py import_ac3d.py __init__.py __pycache__

You can disregard that, are you using the blender snap package by any chance? if so, that is possibly your problem.

I removed Blender and re installed using sudo apt-get install blender I don't like snap/flatpacks as I always face issues with them

you should not need a branch... just get the proper zip file for your version of blender and install that... if you get a branch, it is assumed that you are going to build your own like compiling your own FG instead of using provided installable packages...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Maybe I am using the wrong terminology but when you go to the master it specifically says to use the 2.80 if you have blender 2.80 or above. There is nothing to compile in this case it's just a plugin.
So here you see I have the 2.80 version ( It says branch next to it so that is why I wrote branch)

Just a wild guess, but does the script files have +r permission set and are actually your user's?
