graphics freezing during zoom

Graphics issues like: bad framerates, weird colors, OpenGL errors etc. Bad graphics ar usually the result of bad graphics cards or drivers.
Forum rules
In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).
- please upload a screenshot of the problem.

If you experience FlightGear crashes, please report a bug using the issue tracker (can be also used for feature requests).

graphics freezing during zoom

Good evening everybody,

until a couple of days I get this effect:

Every time I zoom in at about 45% my screen freezes and the only thing I can do is to kill fg and to restart. It seeems to me that fg is still running after screen freezes because I can hear the sound of the aircraft and messages from the system that suit to the estimated flight behavior. In addition it seems to me that sophisticated models of aircraft produce the effect much faster than simple models.
My system worked fine before. Unfortunately I'm not sure what caused this effect because I did not use fg for a while and system paramaters had changed in the meantime (windows updates, bios update etc.).

What I did to solve the problem:

    I tried to reduce rendering options to a minimum but with no effect.

I know the discussions about integrated graphics and their disadvantages using them with fg but it worked properly for me until I came across these errors.

Any suggestions? Help would be appreciated!

my first suggestion is to make sure your graphics drivers are up to date... aside from that, i have no other ideas at this time...

I see you are on 'next'. Suggestions:
- could you run a check using current stable release?
- your hardware seems to be fairly new, but still.. can you run an overnight stress test on it? memory, cpu, graphics?
- win11 is known for scheduler not playing nice with some hardware, any chance to downgrade to 10 and test?

Thanks for your suggestions: I try to change back to a stable release of fg and will see what happens. New graphic drivers are installed and win 11 was never a problem using fg until now.

Nope. problem still exits using a stable release. Further help is appreciated. I will wait for new releases of drivers and binaries. This solved my problems some years ago.
