I was just reading the last point of this list
Now I am frightened. Can multithreading mode do any harm to my PC (and me   ) ???
Also I cannot find the mentioned preferences.xml file in $FGHOME. :?

Hi TheEagle!

The file preferences.xml was renamed to defaults.xml (already some time ago, sorry for that wiki entry not having been up to date, I have changed that now).
About that multithreading thing:
I have tried all modes withour any problems but without much gain either. I did so because I did NOT read that wiki article before! Yes, that sounds SCARY!
I haven't heard of anyone saying that this setting had caused any harm to their computer, but maybe this is because they are unable to write since they tried (explosion, fire...).
Maybe someone else here can clarify; that wiki entry may have been written at times when that feature was still experimental or something.

Ciao,

Adrian

It is stupid bad joke. Multithreading in FG has benefit, but very small and still can't utilize all CPU's cores.

For more details read https://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Activ ... PU_support

EDIT :
Stupid and bad joke is statement about possibility of the computer damage.

A small benefit is still a benefit, isn't it?
And a stupid bad joke is still better than a useless rant, isn't it?! :D

If you want to experiment with threads try using more OSG database threads: https://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Using ... er_Threads

It won't improve FPS. But it will make scenery load pleasantly faster - some have reported occasional crashing with too many threads. 2 threads worked ok for me.

Kind regards
