Change the GUI style.

Code: Select all
fgfs.exe --prop:/sim/gui/current-style=0

or add this option in the launcher under 'Settings' --> 'Additional Settings'.

Just found this thread. I am new to Flightgear, having just started to try to run it on this system:-
Motherboard: ASRock B550 Pro-4
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.59 Ghz
RAM: 16GB
Graphics: MSI Radeon RX 580, 8GB
Driver Version: 27:20:12029.1000
Date: 9/9/2020
OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
Version: 2004
Build: 19041.630
Version Information
FlightGear Version: 2020.3.2
SimGear Version: 2020.3.2
OpenSceneGraph Version 3.4.2
Build Id: 285
Build Number: 285
Revision: 8d35a05348cb89c6cec67e750c73aa3cebf17366
Graphics/OpenGL Information
OpenGL vendor:ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer:Radeon RX 580 Series
OpenGL version:4.6.14736 Compatibility Profile Context 20.9.1 27.20.12029.1000
GLSL Version: 4.60
Max Texture Size: 16384
Depth Buffer Bits: 24

I too have the pixellated screen while things load, and with GUI 1 the menus are blank or flickering. The menus seem to be better with GUI 0.

From this and other posts, it seems that the experienced FG users don't use AMD graphics cards.

It is interesting that the OP's system works fine in Linux. I may have to try that when I have enough time.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to make it work better in Win10 in the meantime.

2 years ago I had workstation class laptop Dell M4600 with AMD FirePro GPU. It was rebranded Radeon HD 5950. With old Catalyst drivers worked amazing good, I had only one problem - with activated antialias, FG menu was badly displayed with missing options. Without AA, all was good.
Try to disable all antialias and tessalation options in drivers and in FG launcher and test.

BTW, not only experienced users should avoid AMD GPU, but all. if I remember correctly, ATI (and then AMD) never had good GPU drivers for OpenGL, only in some specific cases of the workstation grade GPU.
