You have to install the aircraft of other players before you can see them over MP, otherwise they will be displayed as a blue-yellow glider model. Sadly, this can't be done automatically yet, but the founding stones have been led to implement a system that downloads mp-aircraft on the fly (like Terrasync does for scenery). I think that project has stalled though, so it won't be improved unless someone picks it up again.

Yes, that is correct.
Alternatively if they specify a fallback model you will see a low detail model instead of a blue-yellow glider.

You can also select "high detail only" so FlightGear will always load the high detail model no matter the range of the aircraft, but that may cost performance.

I think ideally aircraft developers would make low-poly AI models of their aircraft,[1] so that they could be used instead of fallback models,[2] or, as is common, the infamous glider.

If the low-poly AI model have the same path in the ../AI/Aircraft/ directory tree as the full aircraft model have in the ../Aircraft/ tree it will be used if the full aircraft is not installed.[1]
