Issues with non-zero shader options (NVIDIA TITAN Xp)

Graphics issues like: bad framerates, weird colors, OpenGL errors etc. Bad graphics ar usually the result of bad graphics cards or drivers.
Forum rules
In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).
- please upload a screenshot of the problem.

If you experience FlightGear crashes, please report a bug using the issue tracker (can be also used for feature requests).
To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article. If you are seeing corrupted/broken textures, please see this article.

Note: If you did not get a reponse, even after 7 days, you may want to check out the FlightGear mailing lists to ask your question there.

Issues with non-zero shader options (NVIDIA TITAN Xp)

Postby crusso28 » Tue Nov 06, 2018 5:41 pm

Hi All,

I am encountering an an issue with FlightGear becoming unresponsive when shader quality level is non-zero. I recently upgraded to a new graphics card and have been seeing this issue ever since. My driver is up to date and I am not seeing any issues with OpenGL testing with GPU Caps Viewer.

FG starts up fine, and works fine with default shader options (Performance). I then go to View/Rendering Options and select Custom Setting for Shaders. If I slide the Generic bar up, the detail renders immediately without apparent issue. If I go to do anything else after that (i.e. drag view), the FG window stops responding immediately and goes gray.

My specs are:
- Win 10, 64 bit
- FG 2018.1.1
- NVIDIA TITAN Xp with latest driver
- Intel Xeon CPU E5-1650 v3 @ 3.50GHz
- 64 GB RAM
- Problem occurs with all aircraft as far as I can tell

My output from HELP/ABOUT is:
gl-vendor:NVIDIA Corporation
gl-version:4.6.0 NVIDIA 416.34
gl-renderer:TITAN Xp/PCIe/SSE2
gl-shading-language-version:4.60 NVIDIA

Here is my command line output launching with fgfs:
