AMD Cards

Postby legoboyvdlp » Sun Jan 28, 2018 12:35 am

Hi there,
I've gotten an excellent deal on a laptop with an AMD FX-9800P and a R7 M445. Trouble is, I've heard that AMD has issues with FlightGear. On Discord, FB told me that the newer cards like the R7 don't have very many problems, that their openGL support has improved. Should I risk it and purchase this laptop, or should I go for a safer, although lower powerd i5-7200U / GeForce 920MX?

Noted: it apparently works well with openGL 4.4.

Hi legoboyvdlp,

I had a AMD R9 270 in a Alienware system and issues with text flickering and ALS display of airport lights. Don´t know if the R7 is a newer version as the R9, but I don´t think so.

I was unable to resolve those problems as long as I didn´t change text fonts or skip using point sprites for runway lights in ALS. Due to that I changed my grafics card to a NVidia GTX 1050 TI.

Your choice depends on the features of FGFS you prefer.
