In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).
- please upload a screenshot of the problem.

If you experience FlightGear crashes, please report a bug using the issue tracker (can be also used for feature requests).
To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article. If you are seeing corrupted/broken textures, please see this article.

Note: If you did not get a reponse, even after 7 days, you may want to check out the FlightGear mailing lists to ask your question there.

Integrated graphics message

Postby dc2 » Thu Jul 23, 2015 3:05 pm

Hi there

I'm getting staggeringly low ( <1 fps) frame rates on a MacBook with FG 3.4. The laptop is old now but still has 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duos, 4 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB Graphics Card. Reason for my post is that when I select "View -> Rendering Options" it says (wrongly): "Warning: Intel Integrated Graphics Detected etc." So it looks like the NVIDIA card is not being picked up, despite the fact that the OpenGL capability seems fine elsewhere; eg. under X the glxgears program delivers > 30 fps comfortably and smoothly. Any ideas anyone ? Many thanks in advance.

please refer to the wiki for troubleshooting graphics issues.
glxgears should run with much more than just 30 fps - even if limited by vsync you should still be getting roughly 60 hz.
Under normal circumstances, you should expect to get about 1000 fps with glxgears on any recent GPU.
So you need to make sure that your OpenGL card is set up properly - first of all, review everything without any focus on FG.
Once you have confirmed/fixed that OpenGL is working correctly, you can revisit FG again.
For now it seems obvious that only the CPU-level integrated GPU is being used, which is why things are so slow.
You may want to run an OpenGL benchmark and if necessary re-install any related drivers and try some other OpenGL software/games first, before looking at FG again.

You don't have it on power saving mode, do you?

I had (all of a sudden) the same error on a notebook: fgfs would run on the Intel integrated card instead of the NVIDIA card which it had done all the time before. Consequently frame rates of <1. I deactivated the Intel card, rebooted, activated, rebooted, now fgfs runs allright on the NVIDIA card again. Don't know exactly why.

If you have Optimus technology, here is a hint on how to always use the Nvidia processor:
