i see this asked alot here some people manage to find this in the forums amongst some other threads i have seen this trick repeated but it should be a sticky

JUST CHANGE THE 1 to a 2 in

/FGROOT/preferences.xml

<current-style type="int" userarchive="y">1</current-style>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<gui preserve="y">

<current-style type="int" userarchive="y">2</current-style>
<style n="0" include="gui/styles/classic.xml"/>
<style n="1" include="gui/styles/anthrax.xml"/>
<devel-widgets type="bool" userarchive="y">false</devel-widgets>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

at least makes the GUI usable ONSCREEN text may still flicker but its better than nothing

Good initiative.
But you should rather document this on a ATI/AMD troubleshootings wiki page.

You could also use ~5 lines of Nasal code to dynamically detect ATI GPUs and change the GUI style that way - refer to the rendering GUI dialog for an example, i.e. there's a code snippet detecting Intel graphics showing a red warning - the same "code" (3 lines ...) could be adapted to look for ATI GPUs and then use setprop() to change the GUI style.
Please don't send support requests by PM, instead post your questions on the forum so that all users can contribute and benefit
Thanks & all the best,
