Mister Sir wrote in Tue Aug 03, 2021 4:40 am:What is the "QT Launcher"?

At least on Windows when you start FlightGear, it opens with a launcher that let you select a location to start at, select the aircraft, make a lot of settings etc. Likely you are using it already.
When starting FlightGear from a command line you could use the option --launcher to start the launcher.

Your aircraft is probably under terrain, restart FG and try again.

the default launcher in FG... it is normally used by putting "--launcher" in the command line properties for FG... if you are running windows, it is probably already using it... if you have to click a blue button that says "Fly!" then you are in the "Qt laucher"...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Try this. Using the menu View->View Position and move the view point in the upwards direction. When you break through the surface you will see either terrain or water below you.
Please let us know what you see.

It looks like your not downloading the scenery. Once in the Sim, open the File/Scenery menu and tell us what it shows. I don't remember exactly what the path is, I think it's Scenery something. Also a look at your log would be helpful. On Windows it's typically in user, app data, roaming, flight cure.org or some like that.
