serial protocol

Hello,
I'm just beginning with FlightGear and I'm interested in interfacing with an Arduino using a serial protocol.

After searching around the web I found this tutorial which seems a good way to start:
http://www.scottbouch.com/flightgear-sim-arduino-serial-hardware-2-axis-potentiometer-joystick.html

This is probably a very newbie question:
I'm using FlightGear 2017.3.1 and the question is how do I tell FlightGear which protocol file to read? The tutorial refers to FGRUN but I understand that it is no longer used,

Thanks

Hi Bob.

To match the settings listed in the linked tutorial, you just add "--generic=serial,in,30,com1,9600,"select your xml file name" to the "fgfs" command line if you are running Windows.
