FGRun 2.10 doesn't read Aircraft folder

Postby dandellion » Tue Mar 05, 2013 1:09 am

I switched to 2.10 and it looks great but I also have a ton of problems. Most important

FGRun doesn't care about /usr/share/.../Aircraft folder. It offers just a few airplanes (and UFO) but not even the default c172. To make things weird, if I run fgfs directly, it will start with c172. I tried to switch FGRun's aircraft folder to something else so it shouldn't show any aircraft, but it sticks to its choices.

Any body have any idea what's going on?

System is Linux Mint, FG installed via Ubuntu repository.

I am running Mint 13 Xfce with FG ver. 2.4.0-1 I installed through Synaptic Package Manager and it's working fine.

Just curious, must fg-root not point to a data folder?

Unless you add --aircraft=ufo, then it will start with the ufo (replace ufo with any other plane to get any other plane). There's nothing weird about this, the c172 is the default plane if no other plane is specified in the commandline.

It was working fine for me while I was running 2.4 installed via Synaptic (Mint's repos). Things got bad when I updated to 2.10.

Nope. It's as it should be.

True, but that shows that c172p is installed and that fgfs does reach for it. But FGrun won't.

Anyway... I gave up on FGrun and made a config file so I run fgfs directly

Hi dandellion, I can conform this issue here too. System is Lubuntu 13.10 beta 1, and Flightgear 2.10 installed from the Ubuntu repositories, as well as FGRun 1.6.0. I'm always getting only a partial list of Aircrafts as well as Airports. The Airports shown are only the ones installed with the default SF Bay Area scenery, instead of all the Airports of the world, like FGo shows.

Don't know how to fix this problem. :-( For the moment I'm using FGo instead.

I wouldn't use any frontend if Flightgear directly provided a GUI dialogue for choosing Aircrafts, just like it does for Airports.

This is something that people are working on, but it touches tons of long-standing issues, so while some of us would like to see it in 3.0, it seems more like to be in 3.2+ - but developers are aware of these issues, and the plethora of GUI frontends that we have for these reasons - see this recent comment:

Subject: 2.12 on Mac OSX 10.8.4
zakalawe wrote:Part of the issue is many of the launcher features will become less important when we update the aircraft management system, since there will likely be an in-sim GUI (using the Canvas) to install and select aircraft, so I haven't wanted to invest time on the equivalent features in the Mac launcher.

However, keep in mind that there's only a single guy working on this at the moment (who's usually already juggling 70% of other core development stuff going on) - but thanks to Tom's canvas system, the GUI is becoming flexible enough to make all this possible, without the same guy having to rewrite the GUI too :D

A bit more info would be helpful.
What version are you using?
What OS are you using?
What exactly are you doing when you get "permission denied"?
