Here's a video with some crosswind landings in varying conditions:

Combine two men. Both with their own favourite vehicle. Mix it with some craziness and this is what you get.

Way beyond what I even would think of daring to do! :?

By the way, what's that scraping sound?

Maybe should have backed out the way he got in... : :?

Ooops! (Has a few insightful comments.)

This for sure is not how I would fly a C-17 Globemaster III, even if it's empty. It seems like the pilot is flying on the edge of the envelope all the way to the end, similar to the pilot of the B-52 Stratofortress that crashed while training for an air show. :(

I'm not sure as to if he pulled the nose up to avoid colliding with the buildings or if he had the nose up and got a windy surprise. Anyway, getting down he seems to have had too little speed, getting caught by its own downwash, in what's called a vortex ring condition. Something currently not modelled in FlightGear.

A vortex ring condition will make you loose altitude fast. It's most dangerous when descending at slow or no airspeed, e.g. while landing. It is more or less the helicopter equivalent of a stall. As with fixed wing aircraft forward speed is crucial for the recovery.

Have a look at Howto: Fly a helicopter#Preface on the FlightGear Wiki.

An interesting YouTube clip explaining what it is in a practical (but slow) way is this one (10 minutes from a flying lesson):

I don't know if it's been posted here earlier but anyway, very good piloting and even a bit luck in this one:

Speaking of water, this is a wet runway if any:

Or skip right to right before brake release.
