Heart braking, but yet inspiring: :(

A 7-year old girl, being the lone survivor of a plane crash that killed her family walks to safety with minor injuries in nothing but shorts, T-shirt and one sock (no shoes): How 7-year-old Sailor Gutzler survived a plane crash, Washington Post, 5 Jan 2015.

For those of you who do fly for real (and those who go far by road in unpopulated areas): Be prepared, AOPA

A quote from the above (which to a large degree would be overcome with by filing a VFR flight plan and by basic wilderness training, see the article) (my emphasis):
A 2007 study published in a journal of wilderness emergency medicine found a 99-percent exposure mortality rate for uninjured victims whose rescue was delayed beyond 51 hours.

How cruel life can be! A true heartbreaker!
Don't hesitate to let me know if I'm incorrect or just annoying! As long as you do it gently! :)

Interesting firefighting training incident. Stated to be caused by a malfunctioning a water/oil separator causing the water tank used for training to be contaminated by jet fuel. :?

 I think that is the lowest final I have ever seen.

I've seen that video before. And yeah, it was way tooo low to be considered normal. I wonder if the pilot got some disciplinary action. I think it landed way before the markers in the runway...

Now that is just silly. Jet fuel and extinguisher sitting together waiting to have some sort of malfunction or confusion between the two??

@ HJ1AN: If I understood it correct they had the drainage from the fire exercise area collected to not pollute the nearby area (and ground water). In order to reuse the water they had a separator that would make it possible to dispose of any lighter substances, like diesel and jet fuel, in a environmentally responsible way. I think the reused water was pumped to hydrants in the exercise area.

By the way: Just imagine an engine failure on that low final, even a single one... :?

@ legoboyvdlp: That is exactly what happened. You can see the fireball to the right at 1:22.

Here is something else for you:
Vought F-8 Crusader pilot has air-to-air refueling mishap, ejection fails, parachute fails, falls 15,000 ft into the ocean and survives to tell the story. :D But got lots and lots of severe injuries though... :?

Isn't odd how some thing that can seem like a bad thing (the car crash in Texas) turn out to be lifesaving?

Did you read the article Johan G posted?

Near the end of the article when he (the pilot) was in the hospital the doctor asked:

He said, You have a long scar on your abdomen. How did it get there? I told him about a serious auto accident I’d had four years earlier in Texas, and that my spleen had been removed at that time.

......
He said that if I had had a spleen, it almost certainly would have ruptured when I hit the water, and I would have bled to death. Of the 25 pilots in our squadron, I am the only one without a spleen.

That is what I was referring too.
