C47 Crash on Take-Off in Texas

Postby sim » Fri Jul 27, 2018 10:02 am

A historic C-47 twin-engine prop plane crashed at the Burnet Municipal Airport in Texas on Saturday; all 13 passengers onboard survived.
Video looks like left wing stall. Perhaps C47 took off before sufficient airspeed. (or sudden loss of power an left engine? )
Probably the former since one would expect the tail to be raised to gather speed before easing her off the runway.
That didn't happen, tail was still in contact with the deck at point of take off!
Third possibility that C47 was loaded tail heavy would point to pilot error in not aborting take off when he found tail
could not be lifted by moderate forward stick pressure.
Two videos go to second one, which was captured by smart phone, to judge for yourself what went wrong.

saw a picture earlier of a C130 prop laying in the middle of I-75 south of Atlanta yesterday... it was all four blades and the nose cone... the lack of damage would seem to indicate it fell off a truck but wow...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
