That reminds me of a trip home after a turnaround to Vegas, about 15 years ago. When we left Ventura, all was normal and when we came home, at one point, we could see about 5 separate major fires burning off in different directions. One of them was on both sides of the 118 and as we drove through It, it was like we were entering an apocalypse. I'll never forget that trip or that drive home.
We've always had them out there but It seems like every year they are getting more destructive.

To close to home! I just found out my sister and my nephew were both in mandatory evacuations today because of CA wildfires. One in North San Diego County (Lilac fire) and the other about 50 miles away in Southern Riverside Country (Liberty fire). My nephew (Southern Riverside Country) said the FD saved their home, he's there now mopping up spot fires and flare-ups. I haven't heard from my sister yet, I know they are safe but don't know if their home is.

That's not good :(
Thankfully the 747 tanker finally got approval, so that should help!

I also saw they had an AirCrane going. An old high school friend posted a picture of their "brown" house, it is now a red house due to the retardant dropped on it.

Is the aircraft to the left of the 747 a chase plane?

While it's sad that so many are in danger, you can't deny that the 747 dropping fire retardant is an amazing sight! And hopefully it will have a major effect in fighting the fire.

I think the lead plane here is the Cal Fire Beech C-12 ( http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled ... CT/2744538 ). I wonder if the OV-10 is not used for a specific reason here, or if the schedule just worked out that way.
