Homeade Ultralight

Postby Turnit » Sun Nov 08, 2015 3:50 am

So I was thinking earlyier today, I want to make a homeade ultralight. I was thinking of taking the 737-100, shrinking it down, and turning the model into a ultralight. The only problems I thought of is actually making it fly, and engine placement. I can only put one engine on it. If I put it on a wing, then the other side is unbalanced. The only two choices I thought of is puting it on the front, or mounting it up on the tail wing, and doing a s duct through the back. Having 1 seat is easy and making it under 254 pounds is possible with a little elbow grease. So, am I the only one that thinks this would be possible?

I'm sure it can be created easy, the thing is to make an ultralight I'm sure it will need to be certified with FAA, and a bit of elbow grease won't cut it.
it sounds like a cool idea, but to be fully honest, i dont think its possible. Maybe if someone has a Degree in engineering and can design, make and deliver one , it sounds a little far fetched , as amazing as it sounds.

cheers

Yea, I suck at physics and am somewhat okay with geometry, so thats not going to cut it. I cant afford an engineer to design this. That is why this dream of mine will never take off, in the literal sense and figurtive sense. :(

P.S The FAA doesnt certify ultralights though, so its at your own risk if it flys or no, so I would want a engineer to design it. I could contact a ulltralight company and pay them to design it and build it for me, but currently I dont have that much money, so it wont go anywhere.

fair enough, Ah the FAA is different from the NZ CAA, I'm sure you can find a way to get one if you really wanted it

If I had the right amount of money, I could get tit flying. I will just build the idea I had about puting a full flight sim on a trailer.

Excuse me, but a shrunk 737-100?
Why not a proper one?
The 737-100 is not designed to be an ultralight, but an airliner. Same way, a Cessna is not designed to fly at Mach .78 at 33000, but 120 knots at 8000 feet.

It can be possible to make two simular looking things with enough engineering. Sure, it originally wasnt meant for that, but it would work if you design it, test it, and build it.

What about taking the Boeing P-26, removing the things that are not needed, and get it under 254 pounds. Its not a big aircraft, designs there, all I can think of is just designing it to be under the minimum weight.

Man.... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultralight_aviation

Look at the pictures.
Nothing like a P-26 or 737-100
Just. Wont. Work.

Go ahead, kill yourself if you want.

All that would be changed is the body type. Im not going to go slap a P-26 together and call it an ultralight, but go through, remove un needed things, such as the guns, and put a 5 gallon tank in it.

Do as you please Turnit, although i recommend you not trying to model something after an existing aircraft ( it was designed for a specific reason except an ultralight )
Hint. 737 was for commercial airlines not for a single person.

You have the free will to do whatever you like

Just please, i dont want to see you on the news anytime soon....

Take EXTRA care

Hi,

try to build a model rc Boeing. You can build it as large as you want, but you wont kill yourself:)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraflight_Lazair uses twin engines and is an ultralight
