The 9 Space Shuttles of NASA...

Postby japreja » Mon Oct 05, 2015 5:23 pm

I have been reading a document published by NASA HQ and was quite surprised to see that there were 9 Shuttles. Section 3.1.2 (pdf page 56) notes 4 more shuttles and 2 of them are missing or not documented.

  • OV-095
  • STA-096 (missing)
  • STA-097 (missing)
  • STA-098

Could the 2 missing Shuttles be in some boneyard someplace undocumented?

They aren't actually missing. They've been put to use by Drax Industries.... with varying success....

@Lydiot
I highly doubt government contractors would sell a ballistic structure (basically a manned ICBM) to a movie maker during the cold war erra. Although I did hear that moonraker tried to make a purchase, i have no doubt it's just a rumor. Sort of like the movie Wargames, it's NORADs wet dream :P

STA-96 and 97 are still missing and whereabouts unknown because they were canceled, only Rockwell would have the info and Rockwell was broken up and sold to various buyers, most of the space and related branches to Boeing. The actual STA items locations (the paperwork) are probably buried in a box in some overstock storage room yet to be re-discovered, or at KXTA .
