Bush Fire Photos, Figiliana, Spain.

Postby Neilson » Mon Aug 20, 2012 2:05 pm

Got some photos here of a bush fire that started, close to the villa i was in.
Close to Figiliana, Spain.
It was only a small one, but these thing can come out of control.

This pilot was really good :woohoo:

This is a AT-802F or AT-802AF Air Tractor.

This is NOT a crash.
It shows how close to the mountain he or she got.

Heres a heli sequence.
I think this is a AgustaWestland AW119 Koala.

This is correct. A(W)119 with the bambi bucket being mounted. One of the few single-engine types capable of providing this kind of service.
And my favorite helicopter type, btw.

I've been emailing Anders (who developed the flightgear wildfire simulation module) off line. We have a PBY Catalina setup to drop water, but the drop animation is really goofed up. There must have been some change on the flightgear side that was never reflected in the PBY configuration. That said, it uses a sort of weird system anyway. I'd love to have a nice particle based water/retardant drop system setup as generically as possible so it wouldn't be difficult to add to a variety of aircraft. Anyone want to take on something like this? Maybe starting with the smoke implementation and adding gravity would be a place to start?

Wooo! Awesome photos my friend. Reminds me of my days fighting fire in the southwest (U.S.). Looks a lot like the hills of AZ, NV, NM.

Clear skies, fair winds.

I know this is an old thread but I have to say nice pictures. Some of those pilots are crazy. I remember watching the crop dusters as a kid down around Blytheville Arkansas. I was actually searching for a Air Tractor model in flightgear and came across this thread. Sadly it seems we have no Air Tractor.

There is however the Dromader. It is nearly identical in configuration and both uses a turboprop, so presumably the performance is not all that different.

I have a local copy of the Dromader with the water dropping working and based one what's in the tank. Didn't fix the fertilizer though. Wouldn't be too much work.
