Troubles joining FGCom from ATC and pilot client

Postby N385MB » Mon Feb 08, 2021 2:55 pm

Hello all,
I figured out how to connect ATC-pie to FGCom; however, I do not see myself on the FGCom map. The client does say that I am connected to the Flightgear network, so I don't think it's a problem with that. Whenever I try to run the FGCom program alone, there is an error that reads:

"Simgear Error

--console ignored because stdout or stderr redirected with > or 2>"

I am thinking this may be the cause of FGCom not working for me, but I don't know much about programing so I can't say for sure.
My passengers receive hazard pay... but at least I have fun.

Cheers,
Margot

Hi,
In case the following details help with your diagnosis...
As you know ATC-pie allows for two variants of FGCom. If you are using the standalone variant, every time an FGCom sub-process is started, its standard error stream is collected in a file named "OUTPUT/session-<session-id>.fgcom-stderr-port<fgcom-port>". The session ID is printed on standard output when you load a location; the port is the one chosen when creating the radio box. Every time you turn that radio on, the file will be overwritten.
This can avoid trying things out manually outside of your favourite client only to read stderr.

Thank you very much for the response. In each of the output files I see a similar response, and that's "call 0 accepted, call 0 answered, call disconnected by remote". I know that only certain frequencies can be connected to, in this case I tried New York Approach.

Just some closure, I recently learned that fgcom is not working in total. Fortunately, I got ATC-pie set up with the help of your videos and am now training!

There are alternatives for voice available:

If you choose one of the experimental options (which i would appreciate and encourage!) please provide feedback :)
