No ATIS/ATC sound

Postby bill_flyboy » Sat Apr 26, 2014 6:41 pm

Hi everyone,

I am really new to flightgear, but I tried following the manual to learn how to fly in flightgear.
Before explaining my problem, my config is :
- Ubuntu 14.04 (brand new :) )
- Flightgear 3.1.0
- FGCom 3.0

I can run fgfs without any troubles, but when I want to use the radio, it does not seem to work.
By that I mean the COM frequencies can be set but I do not hear any sound (for instance I tried 135.27 at KPAO), in FGCom I have some messages like :
Airport Palo Alto (KPAO ATIS at 135.270 MHz) is in range ( 0.2 km)
Call 0 accepted
KPAO Palo Alto 135.275 ATIS
Call 0 answered
Call disconnected by remote

Do you have any idea what the problem might be ?

The frequency that you selected is an ATIS frequency. FGCom is not designed to send you ATIS information, FlightGear does it himself.
That's why the "remote" ( the server) disconnect you. I fyou want to talk with an ATC you have to set another frequency (Tower, Ground...)

Also, it's possible that you are the only one connected on the frequency, that's why you can't talk to other people, you can check who is connected at http://fgcom.flightgear.org

If you are using Flightgear 3.1, that's the development version.

Did you clone it from Git and compile it? If so, the ATIS is in the process of being changed and is not fully working.

@F-JJTH : my bad, I thought that it was FGCom which dealt with ATIS and ATC.

@sanhozy : Thanks, I didn't thought about this, but that probably is the reason. I cloned it from git, and took the latest stable version, which is 3.1.0.
Therefore I will try to download and compile the 3.0 version and try again.

I keep you posted !

To get 3.0, just make a new branch and checkout the version/3.0.0-final tag of simgear and flightgear then recompile. You don't need to download it again -- just rewind back in the history of the repository you already have. Then you can switch back to the bleeding edge by checking out the "next" branch and recompiling whenever you want.

I'm not exactly sure how to do that...
I never used git before, and I installed using the script provided here : http://wiki.flightgear.org/Scripted_Com ... ian/Ubuntu
I thought that enabling the -s option on this script would download me the latest stable version but apparently I was wrong ...
Can you give me a hint of the command to execute to do what you just said ?

EDIT : I managed to do it by myself, and it was indeed the problem !
The subject is now resolved !
