FGComGUI is broken ?

Postby F-JJTH » Mon Dec 16, 2013 6:39 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to compile FGComGUI on Linux, but the compilation fails. I got:
Code: Select all
Révision 46 extraite.
scons: Reading SConscript files ...

scons: warning: BuildDir() and the build_dir keyword have been deprecated;
use VariantDir() and the variant_dir keyword instead.
File "/home/clement/fgfs/fgcomgui/SConstruct", line 57, in <module>
scons: done reading SConscript files.
scons: Building targets ...
rcc qt_resources.qrc > linux/build/qt_resources.cpp
Segmentation fault
scons: *** [linux/build/qt_resources.cpp] Error 139
scons: building terminated because of errors.

I'm using https://fgcomgui.googlecode.com/svn/trunk repo, and I try to compile with:
Code: Select all
scons prefix=../install_dir
scons install

On Windows FGComGUI + FGCom 3.0 works fine ! But I would like to try on Linux...

So the question is: how to get a working FGComGUI under Linux ?

Clément

Up :-)

It looks like FGComGUI is no longer developped/maintened ?
Also looking at the FlightGear project it looks like FGComGUI has never been a part of the project ( in Gitorious we have "fgrun", "simgear", "openradar"... but nothing about "fgcomgui" )
Should I considere that FGComGUI is a third-party software who has no direct relation with the whole FlightGear project and has to be ignored ?

Judging from fgcomgui > Source > Changes (actively worked on between August 2009 and January 2010) it sure looks unmaintained, or at least not actively maintained. Maybe it was a short-term project to fill a need for those who are not used to command line interfaces. ;)

Having to ignore it is probably a bit excessive, but being a third-party software, yes, for sure. But at the other hand, so was FGCom as well (up to July 2012).

Side note: I noted that the FGCom wiki page still linked to the old repository at sourceforge, though I just updated that page.

For FGCOMGUI you may check https://code.google.com/p/fgcomgui/source/checkout , including download, instructions etc. (also for FGCOM)

That was the source used over many years for FGCOM+FGCOMGUI for Windows and Linux - because nobody wanted to take over the project direct in FGFS..
Since about 1 year agou they do not do upgrades any more. But see the page: They offer to continue that project with their code.
May be you even ask those guys for help - that are FGFS members.

How about downloading that source-code as offered - debugging it - and/or trying to contact that designer?

I'm not interested in debugging FGComGUI... I have enough project on my side: aircraft development with PAF team, FGCom client, FGCom server, OSG, transponder... it's enough for me :)
