Hi George,
as FlugHund already said, you don't need to compile the Atlas-version from geoffmclane.com by yourself. Just download the atlas-02-exe.zip which can be found at the bottom of
http://geoffmclane.com/fg/fgfs-049.htm. This zip-file contains the already compiled files, which saves you a lot of work.
It doesn't really matter, where you extract this zip-file. The files can be in your flightgear\bin\win32 folder or somewhere else. I prefer to have all my Atlas files in a seperate folder. For example: FlightGear is installed in "E:\FlightGear", my scenery is in "E:\FlightGear_Scenery", the Atlas exe-files are in "E:\Atlas" and the generated maps are stored in "E:\Atlas\data". The only important thing is, that you need to remember, where the files are.
- Open a windows command prompt.
- Navigate to the folder with your Atlas exe files. (If you don't know how to do this first two steps, read the instructions in the Command line article in the wiki.)
- Type the following command:
- Code: Select all
atlas.exe --path=PATH-TO YOUR-ATLAS-IMAGES --fg-root=PATH-TO-YOUR-FLIGHTGEAR-DATA-FOLDER --fg-scenery=PATH-TO-YOUR-FLIGHTGEAR-SCENERY --udp=5500 --serial=5500 --autocenter-mode
- If a path contains a "space" in its name, surround it with quote signs ("). An example for this can be found in this wiki article for the original Atlas version
- Press ENTER to start Atlas.
- Atlas should start and the windows firewall, or the firewall you installed on your computer, might ask you to allow Atlas.
- You should see two new windows from Atlas. One, showing the maps, another one with some graphs. Remember, closing the graphs window will shutdown Atlas. You need to type the "d" key in the Atlas main window to hide them.
- Start Flightgear (or better said "FGrun") by doubleclicking on the Flightgear icon in your startmenue or desktop.
- Chose an airplane, an airport and on the last page, right befor you start Flightgear, there's an option called "Atlas". Check the checkbox and enter "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" for the hostname and "5500" for the port as shown in this image:
- Click on the start button and FlightGear should start. As soon as you begin flying, the map in Atlas will move, always showing you centered.
In my example (with my paths and folders mentioned above), the command to start Atlas is:
- Code: Select all
atlas.exe --path=E:\Atlas\data --fg-root=E:\FlightGear\data --fg-scenery=E:\FlightGear_Scenery --udp=5500 --serial=5500 --autocenter-mode
By using the following command, Atlas will show you all the available options:
- Code: Select all
atlas.exe --help
If this doesn't help, please either make a screenshot showing the error or just post the error message (including the command, you typed in).
[Edit:]If the above stuff solves your problem, you might create a "special" atlas shortcut. Always typing all the options can be a little bit annoying.
With all the foldernames taken from my example, simply create a plane textfile named (for example) "start_Atlas.cmd" in your windows notepad. You should find the notepad somewhere in your windows start-menu. Otherwise you can even take any other editor who is able to create plain textfiles. Wordpad or Word might not work in this case.
The newly created "start_Atlas.cmd" should contain the following text:
- Code: Select all
E:\Atlas\atlas.exe --path=E:\Atlas\data --fg-root=E:\FlightGear\data --fg-scenery=E:\FlightGear_Scenery --udp=5500 --serial=5500 --autocenter-mode
Save your file and doubleclick on it. This should start your Atlas version with all the specified options.
If ".cmd" doesn't work, try to name this file ".bat" at the end ("start_Atlas.bat").
