Atlas for flightgear 2.8 on Mac Os X?

Atlas is an addon that lets FlightGear users display a real-time "moving-map" of their flight.

Atlas for flightgear 2.8 on Mac Os X?

Postby Groquik » Sat Sep 08, 2012 9:39 pm

I had previously the 2.6 version (downloaded from here http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/). It came with Atlas.

I installed recently the 2.8 for Max OS X, and I can't find an executable that would look like atlas in the Applications/FlightGear.App directory.

Do I need to download it from elsewhere? or to compile it (but the website of Atlas seems to be outdated)?

thanks in advance

Atlas is really a stand-alone project, but it used to be packaged with FlightGear for OS X, courtesy of Tatsuhiro Nishioka. He hasn't produced a package for 2.8, for whatever reason, so that's probably why Atlas wasn't added to the OS X FlightGear distribution. To get the latest Atlas, you need to be a bit tech-savvy, in that you need to get the CVS version from the Atlas SourceForge site (http://sourceforge.net/projects/atlas/), then build it. Needless to say, this is a pain in the butt. My hope to is get an official release out soon (where "soon" can be defined as just about anything).

Failing that, in the short term, your best bet is to use the Atlas that was packaged with the 2.6 release.

Thanks for the hint.

For the ones who want to do the same:
1- download the 2.6 version from http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/
2- open the dmg file
3- right click on the FlightGeap.app to see the content
4- copy the Contents/Frameworks/PLIB.framework directory to your 2.8 installation directory
5- copy the Contents/Resources/Atlas to your 2.8 installation directory
6- copy the Contents/Resources/data/Atlas directory to your 2.8 installation directory

I noticed a AtlasPalette file, that was part of the 2.8 package. I keeped the 2.8 version

it worked on my mac. Hopes for you as well.

a last thing:

I was frustated to have only the green background (cause I was used to the nice background maps in 2.6)

I looked at the FlightGearController.rb file at /Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Resources/data/
I just delete the dash on line 181
was
Code: Select all
#                 "--fg-scenery=./data/Scenery-TerraSync",

is now
Code: Select all
                  "--fg-scenery=./data/Scenery-TerraSync",

restart FlightGear (fgrun) and enjoy Atlas when zooming in!

I have no idea why it was commented, and cannot say if this will impact something

Thanx for this tip, it works great....

My only problem is I don't use TerraSync (I mostly fly offline) and also have this green background...

should I set the --fg-scenery to something else?

I hope to hear!

Hi
Atlas runs fine if you follow the lines :

For the ones who want to do the same:
1- download the 2.6 version from http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/
2- open the dmg file
3- right click on the FlightGeap.app to see the content
4- copy the Contents/Frameworks/PLIB.framework directory to your 2.8 installation directory
5- copy the Contents/Resources/Atlas to your 2.8 installation directory
6- copy the Contents/Resources/data/Atlas directory to your 2.8 installation directory

and you can update the map with the instructions :

In the file /Fligthgear.app/Contents/Resources/FlightgearController.rb
line 170 :
# "--fg-scenery=./data/Scenery-TerraSync",
"--fg-scenery=/Users/your name/Library/Application Support/FlightGear/TerraSync",
the first is the line before and the second the line after.
Of course you replace "your name"
And you zoom 100% or less.

FG 2.10 et Mac OSX (10.6 et 10.8).

You must use Terrasync, of course.

Hi,
Maps are all green on FG 2.12.1 after following the instructions on your previous posts, zoom is OK but the map remains in low definition and remains green at all zoom levels. Any further help you can give please?

are you sure that you downloaded the terrasync data for the area you are flying in?
according to YvesT post, you shoud look at --fg-scenery=/Users/your name/Library/Application Support/FlightGear/TerraSync if there are some data
