Thanks! This is not telling us what happens on your devices, but at least it shows it must be something fixable :) I'll update the osmdroid libraries and push an update of the application during this weekend.

The map works now. I didn't have long to try it tonight but it's looking good. Is it possible to enable pinch to zoom?

Interestingly, the map is shown as a satellite image on the S3 and Openstreetmap on the Nexus 5 (the labels on the airports and navaids are much easier to read on the satellite view).

I can't get the Comm Panel to work, it keeps popping up a warning about running fgfs with --telnet=socket,in,20,,9000,tcp.

Satellite view? There are several map sources, you can select them in the options menu (in the panel list activity, not in the map activity) AFAIK, osmdroid does not include any satellite image! If this is true, this is a feature I was not aware of!

Regarding the comm panel... the warning is there for a reason! Did you set the IP address of the PC running fgfs in the options? Are you running fgfs using these parameters? Check the wiki page for the configuration of both the remote fgfs and FlightGearMap: http://wiki.flightgear.org/FlightGearMap

Clearly I'm still getting used to this phone.... I didn't realise there was a settings menu because the Nexus 5 doesn't have a menu button. I've found it now. Mapquest Aerial is the view I'm referring to. Knowing about this menu makes it easy to get the Comm panel working too.

Sorry for the daft questions!

[SOLVED] Connection timeout - cannot connect

Postby rooman » Tue Sep 19, 2017 9:13 pm

This is the app that I've been waiting for for years, looks great.
However I get "connection timeout" error message continuously. Parameters have been checked several times:

--generic=socket,out,10,192.168.1.7,5501,udp,andatlas in Additional Settings of FGFS
pc ip in FlightgearMap PCip settings; checked in router manager app Genie

ping of tablet from pc:
--- 192.168.1.7 ping statistics ---
56 packets transmitted, 55 received, 1% packet loss, time 55105ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.960/59.658/141.113/38.633 ms

EDIT
played around with firewall parameters, connection okay now, works like a charm!

I've got this "Connection timout" too. It has nothing to do with my firewall (all disabled).
If it works it could be a nice application, but it seems that it is no longer developed ... (last commit over 6 years).

If I am remembering correctly there is a file you must include in fgdata/Protocol/andatlas.xml
It should be available on the site or location where this application is documented.
I use to use this and it always worked as long as it was setup according to the documentation.

However there is another way to get the same type of map that is built into FlightGear. Under the FG GUI Menu
Equipment/Map (opens in browser).
You can get that functionality on any device capable of using a web browser.

Not solved for long

Was working before with KDE but not now with Gnome

However I get "connection timeout" error message continuously.
Parameters have been checked several times:

--generic=socket,out,10,192.168.1.X,5501,udp,andatlas in Additional Settings of FGFS
pc ip in FlightgearMap PCip settings; checked in router manager app Genie

ping of tablet and phone from pc:
less than 1% of loss for the two devices

played around with firewall parameters, connection still time out!

Are we still talking about "andatlas" or the one I suggested above?

All you need for the built in map is
--httpd=5500
in Settings/Additional Settings.

and in the browser the address would be
http://localhost:5500/#Map

It looks like this

In fact you can use any open port you like, but they have to match in the browser and the port you add to the options. Note I used 5500 in both.

I got in the habit of avoiding 8080 as some ISP block that port for some types of IO and it is also a popular port for other application. However using localhost that shouldn't matter.

wlbragg has it right... any port as long as both FG and the browser know about it and it isn't already in use for something else... i've been using 5500 because that's what FGRun used and i learned FG command options from FGRun... i've not seen any need to change it and, in fact, have added more for other services (eg: ATC)...

"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

FlightGearMap

The beauty of this idea is the instruments/map/etc available on a seperate Android device thus freeing up the main screen and giving more of a real simulation experiance.

Trying to put the map in a browser window slows down FG by half a dozen fps and just gives the error Localhost does not authorize this connexion...
