Internet Speed Test Game

Postby simbabeat » Tue Sep 14, 2010 4:29 am

Had this idea today after I tested my internet. We should all post our speeds (on speedtest.net so the data is uniform) and see how we compare.

I'll start it off:

All you do is go to speedtest.net, pick a server close to you then copy the link.

Here's mine:

Using the St. Louis Server:

Using the Chicago (Aurora, IL) Server:

Using the Indianapolis, IN Server:

Nowhere near what it should be running right now (generally around 15-16Mb/s Down and .7-.8Mb/s Up). Probably due to the fact that all 4 computers (including the server) are currently accessing the internet. I'll try again tomorrow when only my computer is online and edit this post if necessary. Interesting how the different servers rate massively different speeds - the Indianapolis server almost doubled the St. Louis server even though it's quite a bit further away

If I use Chrome I get faster results, but Chrome switches between tabs and stuff like that slower. So I use Firefox because I like having a LOT of tabs open.

Sadly mine is nowhere as speedy as some of your speeds. I could only dream of such speed! However, posting your universities/works speeds doesn't really count IMO ;)

Redneck, interesting to see that you're the only one with faster upload than download speeds!

Took me a few tries but I finally got accurate results on this test again.

When I first got Comcast my download was something like 19MB/s, then 29MB/s. My jaw dropped when I saw that, because this is what I typically got on this test for my old ISP (Verizon)

I know it's very interesting. I'd love to be able to actually afford this kind of internet at home. On this connection, I can upload like five 10-minute videos in about 10 seconds. At home, each video would take about 45 minutes.
