AngeTheGreat's engine simulation

Postby lomar » Tue Sep 06, 2022 9:37 pm

found this video some days ago and was amzed and obsessed about how nice this is and the endless possibilities it has if you know how to code and have the engine's parameters
I wonder if this can be of any use for FG, i've seen some people doing some WWII warbird engines for it. The primary goal of the software was to simulate correct
sounds for the engines, maybe we could use it to improve some planes' sounds (too bad atm it has some artifacts and only does 4 stroke internal combustion engines)

Well, most post-WW2 aircraft have four-stroke engines - think Cessna, Piper, etc. I do wonder how much CPU resources this needs tho … Anyways, thanks a lot for sharing this, mate ! :)

I like to see the be extended to jet engines and other type of engines.

i'm a little bit late on this (the video is already a month old), but now the program supports rotary (Wankel) engines

I think Marc Krause's FG Motorcycle and GP courses download includes a Norton Wankel Gran Prix bike. That you could sample various engine sounds, that alone would make this simulator useful for making FG engines sounds that are realistic.

A considerable percentage of pre-WWII engines were also 4 stroke, I would say largely over 95% or greater

It is getting better by the month. The prototype works in 3D now, and can tuned in real time.

To be honest, I don't even now if that code is public.

Yes, there is a GitHub repo, and someone started adding Linux compatibility, but last time I checked there was quite a way to go, to actually being able to build and run it on Linux.

Oh, I did not know. Not really my thing to experiment with engines. But I will leave a link here for future reference: https://github.com/Engine-Simulator/engine-sim-community-edition. And here is the early one https://github.com/ange-yaghi/engine-sim.
