A friend of mine told me this story and told it as being true. Probably it's not, but the statement is somekind of true anyway, also of
So here it comes:

When the first Astronauts from the NASA came back to earth, they complained about that
their ballpoints wouldn't work in non-gravity-situations. The NASA-engineers put their heads
together, and after about 250.000$ and more than a year of development, the engineers came up with a new revolutionary
ballpoint, which would work in zero
At the same time, the first russian Cosmonauts returned from space. When they landed, they complained about the same issue too to their engineers. They literally put their heads together, whispered secretly, looked back at the Cosmonauts and gave them... a pencil!

Actually this is a myth. Some research here:

But this does not change, that amazing engineering can come from any part of the world. Just reflecting different needs at times.
