P.S. You may want to consider not using quit that large images. On my 24 inch screen they are scaled down to half the size, but are still downloaded full size.

Will be difficult as it profits from many techniques in blender not available for flightgear (instant reflections, glossiness, mirror etc.)

"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

These are the so-called "Fireflies", a big and common problem when using Blender Cycles. As it was only a quick render, there are more than usual (see https://www.blenderguru.com/articles/7- ... fireflies/ )
Here is a newer and better version (using the Pro-lighting demo addon from blenderguru.com https://www.blenderguru.com/pro-lighting-skies-demo/ )

This FG can certainly do - just think like a real time 3d renderer and not like a raytracer. The most prominent reflections in the glass are not the outside world, but the fact that there's bright openings on the opposite wall. Opacity map does it (and the C-172p has it implemented for the glass).

Glossiness FG rendering certainly does, because that's your run of the mill specular and shininess parameters.

For an interior of anything, you can even do mirror reflections by a suitable environment map - this is just difficult to get for exterior surfaces.

So it's largely a question of pre-computing things for the real time techniques, not so much an impossible to do.

Just to sum up, he's talking about baking textures, like in the shuttle.
There are free alternatives to (almost) every program you encounter. You just have to find them.

Both of those look really good.

I'm absolute crap at materials and texturing in blender, so I'm mucho impressed by your skills.
