A little story from work made me laugh today :

There's this guy in my group who's trying to bring all of the merit from finished work to him, and it works. We're 4 in our department, work more or less the same, but he's hogging all of the results and is poised to be the one being promoted when our hierarchical superior retires. Needless to say, we aren't thrilled about this, especially since we once tried to tell the management about it, and it was just dismissed as being "jealousy".

However, today, I've been given the task to go to Greece and visit these villas to give insurance contract estimations for potential buyers (and for the company selling them, too). The reason? "Hey, Mikoyan's not been getting many sunlight these days compared to [gloryhog], let's send him to do that!"

I can't brag about it at work because the atmosphere's toxic enough, I can't brag in front of my wife because her job has been crap recently, so please accept my apologies for winding it out here. I'm not a firm believer in karma, but it does feel nice to see something fair for once

I stumbled over this on imgur:

Two rednecks flew to Canada on a hunting trip. They chartered a small aircraft to take them into the Rockies for a week of moose hunting. They managed to get six.

As they were loading the plane for the return, the pilot said the aircraft could only take four moose. The hunters objekted strongly: "Last year we also got six, and the pilot let us take them all in one trip. He flew the exact same type as you do." Reluctantly the pilot gave in and all six were loaded.

The takeoff went ok, but while later trying to clear a mountain ridge on full power they did not fully make it and the aircraft crashed. Somehow, surrounded by the moose meat, the two hunters survived. After climbing out of the crashed aircraft one of them asked if the other had any idea about where they were. The other hunter replied "Probably not too far from where we crashed last year."

I would not be even the slightest surprised if some rural Finn have converted a junk car to a sauna. There are even small sauna tents commercially available over there. :)

Have you heard about the two antennas that got married.

They had an awesome reception.

TeXnicer wrote in Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:25 am:Gosh, this was so simple, you could have written: "Have your tried turn it on?". XD

I have nearly have had that issue.

More than a decade ago I was working in a warehouse. We had different areas for different activities:
  • Unpacking incoming shipments and bringing items to the production areas of the small factory, or preparing them to be stored in the warehouse.
  • Receiving and preparing items from the production for storage
  • Picking ordered items for shipping
  • Packing smaller packages and smaller domestic orders
  • Packing larger packages, like pallets and long wood crates

Items could be could weigh anything between nearly nothing at all to 250 kg (500 lb) and be up to nearly 15 m long (I thing the longest wood crate we shipped was about 14 m, about 45 ft, nailed together from three long ones and some 1x4 in board).

In the area for packing smaller packages (up to 25 kg, about 50 lb) we had four packing benches, each with some shipping boxes, stuffing, a computer, a scale, and the item actually relevant for this whole story: A label printer for the shipping labels.

Now, one of these printers had been out of service for about a week, but thankfully this was in the low season, in essence in middle of the summer, when most Swedes are on vacation, (which probably also is why none of the more senior colleagues had done anything about it). After I had enough I took the time to try restarting the computer it was connected to, checking if the power cord was connected etc. Finally I decided to ask for the phone number to have it serviced.

The service guy arrived the next day after a 3-4 hour drive. Quite apparently I had missed checking something important, as the first thing he did was to push the power connector all the way into the socket. According to him it was not all that rare, which is why it was the first thing he would try.

I did not get yelled at by anyone, but it was quite embarrassing, in particular since it would be all that guy did that day.

PF: I fly as I see fit! *

___
PF: Pilot Flying. Not to be confused with PIC, Pilot in Command (in essence the Captain).
CFIT: Controlled Flight Into Terrain, in essence without the aircraft being in a stall, spin, upset attitude, damaged etc.
