Here's a great idea. I'm gonna start a "ProFlightSimulator is a SCAM" page on Facebook! Will you all become fans if I do? :D

I think someone's already made such a page, and last I checked, which was a while ago, it had only a few fans.

I know very little about Facebook, but would it be possible to add a link to the forum and wiki? I see lots of people asking questions at FB that can be easily answered in the forum or at the wiki...

If anyone knows a way, let me know. I did at least manage to get the www.flightgear.org url displayed on the front page until FB changed the page formatting. They are trying to not allow people to reference outside and want to pull all activity into facebook-land I think. I hate facebook actually, but I'm always happy to learn how to use it more effectively if I'm missing something obvious.

Facebook is quite a limited platform, but external links can be entered into modules on facebook group pages, as well as large images and other customisable fields. Things can actually be embedded into the page as well (if you play a facebook game for example, you find the game page consists of a regular group page with an external link for flashplayer or java, or the flashplayer/java item is embedded into the facebook page. With HTML5 I imagine it could be a lot more flexible although facebook is not compatible with this as of yet. I'm not sure they are actually planning to cut external links, it does however warn users that they are visiting an external link and thus it may contain suspicious or potentially harmful items.

Myspace is actually a lot more flexible, record labels and artists use it to implement and embed flashplayer/java modules, interactive links and external properties etc. Although im sure we don't have a myspace page as it has changed to be more about music.

Regards, Liam.

Facebook FlightGear page = 3412 friends since about Jan 2011.
FlightGear forum = 4228 members since about November 2006.

Look out, facebook is going to pass up the forum in membership before too long. :-)

Hence my question :)

People that expect to get an answer from our FB account don't seem to get one (altough the replies might be hidden for non-FB people like me, not sure about that). Wouldn't it be nicer to direct them to the primary spot for asking support, rather than splitting the community in even more parts?

The flightgear page just passed 4000 members!

The forum here is still by far the better place to seek help and support and ask questions. I see the facebook page more as providing a periodic dose of what's new or cool or fun in FlightGear (for facebook users.)

It doesn't seem like too long ago we cleared the 4000 friend mark, and already we are at 5000, way to go!

5,987 right now. Sooo close to 6,000!

That makes roughly 1,000 in a month, considering the last post.
